An important part of each student's course this year was English, as it is every year. The teachers who were engaged in the process of instructing students in the usage of standard English and developing in them an appreciation of American and English literature were Miss Frances Finley, Miss Charlotte Hodges, Mrs. Dorothy Rice, Mrs. Kay Thompson, Miss Margaret Spain, Miss Virginia Praytor, Mr. Houston Kennedy, and Miss Pat Martin. THE LANGUAGES DEPARTMENT WHICH GAVE US A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF OTHER NATIONS The language department offered tliree foreign languages for the students with the desire to speak in another tongue. Miss Virginia Praytor, who also taught English, taugiit all the Latin classes. Students who took French or Spanish were instructed by Mrs. Leslie Ainsworth. A. degrees; Subjects - French and Spanish; Sponsor of Le Cercle Francais THE HOME ECONOMICS DEPARTMENT WHICH ENCOURAGED DEVELOPMENT OF OUR DOMESTIC INTERESTS MRS. BARBARA POSNER Alabama College, University of Alabama; Degrees - B.S. and M. A.; Subjects - Home Economics and Social Studies; Sponsor of Student Council Girls interested in learning how to be better homemakers were aided by the advice of Mrs. Barbara Posner, who taught foods, and Mrs. Teresa Whitfield, who taught clothing and homemaking.
