THE MATH DEPARTMENT WHICH TAUGHT US TO THINK LOGICALLY THROUGH PROBLEM SOLVING MISS VIRGINIA HAMILTON - Birmingham-Southern, Peabody College, University of Michigan; A. B. and M. A. degrees; Subject - Mathematics; Sponsor of Pronietliean MR. STERLING BENEFIELD - Samford University; A. B. degree; Subjects - Math and General Math; Sponsor of Gorgas Literary Society MRS. BETTY REYNARD - University of Texas and Lamar State College of Technology; B. S. degree; Subject -Mathematics. MRS. ANNETTE LOVETT - Birmingham -Southern College; A. B. degree; Subject - Mathematics; Sponsor of Red Cross Club Renovation found the classic theorems and assumptions in different surroundings from the past years. New instructional equipment, such as the electric overhead projectors, was initiated this term. Since two years of math are required for graduation, students took general math, business math, and modern algebra or geometry to fulfill this requirement. The mathematically inclined students enjoyed further probing into numbers and their relationships by taking a second year of algebra and trigonometry. MYSTERIES OF OUR UNIVERSE MR. MIC HEAL BARA NELLI - Birmingham-Southern College, University of Alabama, University of Detroit; B. S. degree in Physics; Subjects - Physics, Algebra: Sponsor of Hioxoih Science Club. Completion of the science labs on the third floor made it possible for students and teachers to enjoy tlie new equipment and surroundings of the science classes. General science, biology, chemistry, physical science and physics were taught by this department. In addition to lab work, scientific films were an asset to the department. 23 MR.
