School of our youth; again we shall see Joyous faces, appealingly dear. Rippling laughter we shall seem to hear... How those class bells regularly rang To remind us study was the thing! How we crammed and worried with fear That final results would mean another year. There was a rush to class, a hurry to lunch That we might meet our crowd in a huddlod bunch. At games, there was yelling and jumping with glee When our boys gained football victories for thee! When conflicts often put reason to flight. You taught us that others can be right — When differences came, as come they do. You inspired us to stand courageously true. You aroused our curiosity to explore fields new. You showed that life's duties have glamour too. Thus, we are determined more talents to find And become self-dependent in heart and mind. At this graduation we leave this loved school life To go forth into a world torn with strife. But you have prepared us, dear Phillips High, To work, to suffer, to conquer, to die. Mildred Johnson BETSY GROOMS HARRY ARMISTEAD WL WITTIEST MOST ATHLETIC JOAN DAY CHARLES ELLIOTT ROBBIE JO ROBBINS BOBBY DUKE lUissin £eniol (31 ass Heaves Hast 'Testament BULLETIN: No trace has yet been found of the senior class missing since January and last seen at Phillips High School, report members of the MIRROR board, and the Pennruddocke Sleuthing Agency. However, among the empty lockers, cluttered lunchroom trays, and stacks of used book-reports, a paper, believed to be concerned with, if not to hove been left by, the missing group, has been found. For public information, this newspaper prints herewith the entire text of the newly-discovered document: All of Charles Elliott's good looks, wit, and magnetic personality are bestowed upon Charlie Dickinson. John Simonetti bequeaths his jet-black, curly locks to Wayne Saterbak and Manuel Brocato, while Mavine Waits and Robbie Jo Robbins leave their ringlets to Margo Downey and Peggy Za-naty. Horry Lee and Bobby Duke leave their faded football jerseys to the two players who have the physique to fill them. William 'Jughaid' Jordan leaves his marvelous ability of answering all possible history questions to Mary Ann Brasfield. To Jimmy Nunis goes Jack Ellis' 'ways and means' into the Honor Society. Anyone in need of chewing gum can find George Colvin's spearmint stuck under any table in the lunchroom. Lewis George leaves his free meal ticket ot'Harry George's' to Sammy Anselmo. Pauline Carruba leaves her brilliant smile to Carolyn Holston. Betsy Grooms' mania for travel is left to Bryan 'Cuz' Hutcheson. 'Yeggman' Charles Browdy wills his craftsmanship to Bobby Dauwalter; Robert Alloway wills his maidenly blush to Cecil Phillips. All candy left in the locker of the Duffey twins is hereby left to William Greco and Dan Pilkinton. Dorcas Moncrief leaves her lilting laughter to Mr. Fullington, so that all his jokes will be appreciated. To any person caught chewing gum by Miss Ragan, Joy Puckett leaves her worn-out dust -cloth for dusting baseboards in room 327; while Norman Whitfield leaves to his little brother Bobby his apple-polisher. Mildred Johnson, Billie Ruth Davis, Elaine Fix, and Sylvia Moore hand over their tired typewriters to anyone who can pass a speed test. Tasia Grammas' charming personality goes to her little sister, Maria. Harry Armistead and Mary Jane Tapscott bestow their rapier wits upon Leon Westerhouse and Margie Vann. Lorraine Logan is the heiress of Joan Day's 'permanent' library permit. To George 'Shorty' Rogers, the Holt twins leaves their combined height, and to Ray Worth Malcolm Tuck leaves his melodious bass voice. No other clues are known to exist, but anyone knowing the present whereabouts of these and other members of the class of January, 1951, should notify the proper authorities immediately, as these individuals are sorely missed at Phillips High School. This Q Relieve Against the ever brightening sky the spiraled, blackened wreckage Stood gaunt over the sullen land of ugly twisted beams and huge grotesque designs. The steel was curled Like newly burnt matches, and the faint, acrid odor of smoke Filled the morning freshness. The charred embers of burning homes and shops rose dark against the sky. Amid the risen ruins of war, among the twisted wreckage. Comes the hope, the faith sublime, of a tiny flower, Its dainty petals lightly tinged with a deeper hue, its fragile stems tossed by the wind. Little it knows of blood and pain, of twisted dreams and futile hopes As its leaves spread wide to the morning sun and bright is its smile to God. If only man could have such faith, the faith of trusting flowers, If man would put away his tools of power and destruction and place his faith in God alone, and love his neighbor as himself, Then we should have peace. Wlitels' Welk Hebe (2nd 'Jhele 'football !%0 Phillips' Championship Red Raiders Last year, in our write-up of the football season, we predicted, All things come to those who wait . Phillips waited twenty years for a championship team, and what a team it got I The 1950 Raiders went unbeaten all the way, from a 14-7 win over Bessemer to a 20-0 defeat of Woodlawn in the Clinic game, and hod only two close calls. With the first-class possing and placekicking of Bobby Duke, the fine running of White, Jones, Satcrbak, Nail and Nosh, the terrific line play of the entire forward wall, and the splendid coaching of Tarrant, Long, Mog-nuson and Tucker, Phillips breezed into second place in state prep standings. To Phillipians, however, our team rated FIRST, and no lower. The season's record reads: Phillips versus: Bessemer, 14-7; Decatur, 21-7; West End, 14-13; Enslcy, 34-6; Murphy, 33-0; Anniston, 19-6; Chattanooga, 54-6; Woodlawn, 20-19; Ramsay 26-0; and THE CLINIC GAME: Phillips 20, Woodlawn 0 I Coaches Long, Tarrant, and Tucker Captain, Harry Lee Co-Captain, George White Captain-elect, George Nash Tack,« Right Half Left Half Co-Captain-elect, Jerry Harrison, Left End Sammy Ansel mo Right Tackle Richard Attaway Left End MANUEL BROCATO Left Guard JIM DILLARD Right Half JOHN DOTHARD Left End BOBBY DUKE Quarterback SAM FREEMAN Right Guard DON GEORGE Left Guard JIMMY HARMON Left Guard JIMMY HOLCOMB Right Guard DAVE JONES Left Half WILLIAM JORDAN Center WELDON LOCKHART Left End BRAXTON NAIL Fullback CECIL PHILLIPS Center DAN PILKINTON Quarterback GEORGE REID Right End GEORGE ROGERS Left Tackle WAYNE SATERBAK Fullback HAROLD WHITE Left Tackle fiasketball VARSITY TEAM 1950-51 With the basketball season almost over, the Red Raider had chalked up an enviable record of II wins and 7 losses.
