fn 76a Gayiial gall January 1969: The Kendrick Brothers' Circus Comes to Town! Mary Dove Cantley and I decide to go this very night. After buying our tickets from Pat Cray and giving them to Charlie Deacy, we were greeted by Sammy himself, who tells us that most of our senior class are members of his troupe. Suddenly we are surrounded by Harrell Henson, Bobby Black, Tommy jefferson, Vivian Shelton, and Frances Sherrill, the clowns. Then the show is ready to go on, and after we are led to our seats by lack Clay and Norman Routon, the lights dim and the band, consisting of Glenn jackson, Sara Shaddix, Norman Dreher, Marilyn Hallmark, Haskill johnson, Carole Healy, and Robert Stallings, and con- ducted by Sol Shapiro, breaks into the opening notes of the Star-Spangled Banner. Marlyn McEachern steps into the spotlight and as her voice fills the big tent, I glance around to see if I recognize anyone. That old sea captain, John Hutch- eson, is sitting between our state senators, Joann Kelly and Margaret McCaughy. The big fat man with the carnation in his lapel is Bobby Barnes, the tooth pick magnate, and that handsome Caballero is Ben Phifer, who is staring in his latest picture with Mitzi Wright, better known to us as june. By now the lights are growing dim for. the Daredevils of the Air, Betty jane fBroken Bonesj Tate and Richard Thrower. Next come the trained elephants, with Louise Murray and Norma F rock, as their trainers. Then the equestriennes, Mary Jane Kicker, Sadie jean Levio, and Billie Faye Watson, and show off their stately white horses. Since half the show is over, I think I'll go down the midway. I pass the side shows and am surprised to see Ted Nordman barking about Robert Kieran, the muscle man, and jimmy Todd, the sword swallower. Next I see the motorcycle racers, Hubert Reeves, Nell Whitley, Kidd Collins, Franke Atkinson, and Robert Black, getting all set for their performance. At the star-studded tent of Madame Christine, Madame, who is none other than Leona Roth, gazes into her fish bowl,

745 We Shaw Glow ability to say the wrong thing at the wrong time to Linda Bonrvolous. joy Belle lieid bestowed her straight hair on Annis Tollett. Bidding the acrobats farewell and walking over to the lion cages and talking to the trainers, I received the following information: Thomas Reeves left Post Office duty to anyone crazy enough to take it in for the winter. Ed Whaley conferred on Swift Williams his ability to tease Instructor Craig about her Cadillac. After this hair-raising experience, I went to the technicians' tent where Sylvia Durbin and jane Ginn bequeathed their abilities to Al Dabney. In the band and music tent, Norma McCurdy left her baton to Ann Madonia. Vivian Dattoli. willed her saxophone to Connie Campbell. Mary Ann Dudley wills her favorite instructor, Mr. Bailey, to all new troupe members. Continuing to the gypsy dancers tent, Gail Ellison wills to Kathleen Jones her ability to laugh at the most inopportune time. Back to the Big Top--jane Adams and Pat Hurlbert willed their abilities to understand and appreciate the ringmaster, Hamlet, who directs us all, to Kathryn Hairston and Richard Russell. Sue Montgomery left her pet bear, Lover Boy to no one. Because the boss said You can't take it with you, Rosalie Ippolite is going to prove him wrong by refusing to bestow her affection for the P. H. S. instructors on anyone. Louis Culver bequeathed his flagpole sitting job to anyone! Barker Ted Nordman left his circus whip to Miss Benson. For the last word Henrietta Whittle, Barbara Wyatt, and I leave all the Heroes to all the girls who'll have the fun that we did. jean Osborne

As he puts the lions through their paces, Ralph johnson, Carolyn Cagle, and Bill Tatum stand armed and ready in case Phillip bites one of the lions. The Press photographers, Neal Ford and Ben Neighbors, are busy taking pictures.
