Preface this book fill the rigid requirements, which twenty seven previous PEANS have established It is because of our sincere labor, our keenest hopes for a successful PEAN, that we trust we have not failed to succeed, keeping in Q EALIZING the responsibility of chronicling the career fog asa of the class of I I2 we have earnestly endeavored to make .f.V, svn 9 ' , , , Rss: i ' 'ill ' ' . ' Q n mind, however, the mistakes, which we, in spite of care, have made. Thus the IQI2 PEAN is presented to our class, to the alumni, as our best eiiort. The 1912 Pean Our Gift from Exeter Q STRETCH of sand, ahsea-shell or a finger, 4 it 3 A man to lead, another man to learn, ' And in their hearts a wild delight to linger 5 4, The wonder of unfathomed space around them, o 'e -'v X2 . . . . . Where the pale Hames of early knowledge burn The starting of a search without an end, i' The glories of the iirelight confound them, And yet like moths toward its Hame they bend. So strongly was that love of light implanted That still we onwardpress with constant zeal, And happiness in fuller mead is granted As man toils onward to the world ideal. To-day we hold the fruit of ancient sowing, That flowered in this school so wondrous dear, A smoother sand, a sharper shell bestowing, A stronger impulse to'ard a light more clear. Take, then, the world-old search upon our shoulders, Our heritage, to carry proudly on, God grant that we may bring its future holders A knowledge brighter by the light we've won.
