Of all the scape-goats in the row You will ind them in house one. They're very fond of pies, I hear, Sometimes swiping them, just for fun. There is Emmons who is sweet on girls, And Woodbine, darling fellow, Who's struck on cider, so they say, When it is brown and mellow. And little Dickie Lowrief, too, How he longs to cut a gash 5 And Sport Kernar, the man next door, Why! he's always on the mash. But let us hasten on a step To house second in the row, There are some dandies there 'tis said, Some fine fellows, don't cher know. 77 There are Skinner, Sheak and Eaton, Slimpsey Taylor fills the list, When morning spreads its golden light They are always playing whist. And down upon the bottom floor Are found French, and White, and Brown, Who take a night off now and then, As 'tis said, to do the townf, 71 House three has not such men in store, Yet we cannot pass it by. A little may be said of them, A little, but on the sly. There is Mason, great pretension, Vxfith his dainty little feet, With which he cuts his Sunday wood, Wlhile the fellows try to sleep. Dave Perham and H Freshie Fulton Are always pleased in scrapping, Vllhen fellows below are plugging, Or perhaps McGouldrick's napping. There is one I have not mentioned, But I will not tell his name, He's called a H typicalAYankee, From, a little town in Maine. To the fourth house we have wandered, What a bee-hive, you will say, When you hear that three apartments Contain Lawrence men each day. 4' There are others U we've not mentioned, ' But they'll pardon us we know, When they Hnd we've got to visit Fifth house, greatest in the row. There are Branch, and Laing, and Benner Sporting lives revised, each oneg Laing 'tis said, he does the leading In all comedies of fun. There is Gordon, great Mikado, Pierson, known the world around, Easton, famous as an artist VVhen no other can be found. There is Peter the Great, Auten, Nowell, with his tleecy hair, Holman, pretty little fellow, With his sunny face so fair. Ellicot, Porter and Branch were badly injured. The work of Princeton coachers told, and Andover was clearly out-played, the end rush- ers finding it impossible to prevent Lawrencevilleibacks from going around the ends. Egarvarb Base Ball fbame. -We publish the following short account of the first base-ball game of the season, as taken from the Bosfofz Globe .- The Harvard base-ball team opened its season by defeating the Phillips Andover nine on Soldiers Field yesterday afternoon, I7 to 5. Only seven IIO innings were played, but that was enough for both teams and a great plenty for the spectators who shivered through the game. The Andover boys made a great impression in ,their preliminary prac- tice. They handled the ball cleanly and threw around the bases in almost professional style. Their infield work in the game was very good, six of their eleven errors being made by the outfield. The OL1tlC1ClCl61',S job, how- ever, was a hard one on account of the wind. and most ofthe errors were excusable. A game under conditions like that of March 30 is no standard by which to judge the work of a team. For Andover, Barnes was the easy star. He is good enough for any col- lege team, and he did the best iielding of the game. He scored Andover's hrst run by running from second to home across the diamond, a play which eluded the eye of Umpire Keefe. Holman made a circus catch of a fly in the lirst part, and after that dropped two hard flies and made a wild throw. Once or twice the academy boys got rattled and threw the ball around recklessly, giving a few runs to Harvard. Harker got in a timely single in the fourth, which sent in two of Andoveijsvruns.
