Supervising Principal Congratulations to the members of the Class of l96'l as you are about to launch another milestone in your history. You have met and conquered the prcblems that have brought you to this highlight in your lives-graduation. May the fortitude and cour- age you have displayed ever be present ta help you achieve and reach whatever goals are ahead. Your parents, teachers and friends will always reioice in your accomplishments. The understanding ofthe post and the hopes of the future will merit your vigilance in reaching a happy and worthwhile life. M. S. HANCOCK, A.B., M.Ecl. Senior High School Principal ln this age of scientific miracles a high school education assumes a newer significance and a more profound challenge to the youth of today, a future which tells them that all things are possible if they are genuinely interested in whatever they undertake, set a goal for success and meet it with sincerity of purpose, diligence, sacrifice, and the will to win. We cannot all be scientists, great mathematicians or machinists, but we can all make some worthwhile contribution to the world in which we live. No matter how crowded the field seems to be, not all the places have been taken, there is still opportunity for you. No matter how much you may feel that you have reached the limit of your ability, you have reserve strength for a further climb. Getting to the top is a tough assign- ment, staying there is tougher, but it is possible for you to meet the challenges of this new era if you have a solid foundation of good education and use it wisely. The future of our country is in your hands, from your group will come the leaders of tomorrow. We, as your instructors, feel that you are capable of being good leaders, each in your own field of endeavor if you will but use the ability with which you are en- dowed. Believe in your ability, set your goal, work hard to meet that goal. be honest in your dealings with all men and success will came to you. To this I add my personal congratulations and good wishes to all of you, the Class of 'l96'l. EDWARD J. GRUNDY, B.S., M.Ed. Director of Curricula Congratulations. You have been successfully launched from one educational platform. We are hopeful that we have played a part in the mechanics of your preparation. If you hope to complete the iourney and succeed in attaining o height of success, you must strive through each new phase of life with the enthusiasm needed to conquer the great unknown which lies ahead. You are the satellites of tomorrow. Will you falter before your goal is reached, will you rise to each occasion and complete your orbit? 6 Jean M. Adams, B.S. F--.lewis Cl. Adams, BS. Stage Door Stage Door, a Broadway success by Edna Ferber and George S, Kaufman, was presented an April 13 and 14 by our Drama Depart- ment. This show, our serious play for the year, was well received by our student body and community. The plat concerns a group of young girls who have come to New York to study acting and make their mark in the hectic world of the theatre. The scene is Mrs. Orcutt's boarding house where the humor and heartbreak, disappointments and disillusionment, triumphs and tragedies of sixteen young women are revealed in contrasting scenes of entertaining comedy and stork despair. We had Big Mary and Little Mary, our humorous female Mutt and Jelig glamorous Jean, who may not be much of an actress but who becomes a famous movie star, Louise, wha admits defeat and chooses marriage, Kaye, who has had all the disappointments she can take and who tinally takes her own life, Mrs. Orcutt, o has-been, and many attters. But our story centers around courageous and determined Terry Randall, who refuses to give up. After several years of bit parts, closed shows, camping in casting offices, and selling blouses at Macy's, Terry, with the help of idealistic David Kingsley, tinally achieves a place in the theatre world where we are sure she will at last conquer. Through our final play, the Iorge cast, the crew members and the audience learned that the Stage Dear swings open for a very few and then only to those who have courage as well as talent.
