We will easily forget some of the complications experienced while composing this book, but we will always remember the good times we had while working together. As you turn the pages of this, your 1956 Mountaineer, we hope you will be reminded ofthe various events in your school lite. Your friends, your teachers, your clubs, your sports, and your activi- ties have all been recorded forever on these pages. In future years, when you look once more at your annual, it is the desire of the production stat? that you may again share in the events depicted, if only through memory. 2 Table of Contents Administration ,. Don Studio, Philipsburg, Penna. 3 f Dedication The class of T956 respectfully wishes to dedicate this, their yearbook, to a former classmate, Ardell Winters. Ardell was untimely taken from us before he could complete his high school days, so we feel it only proper that we pause and pay tribute to one who cannot be with us to share our last days together as a class. We have but faith, we cannot know, For knowledge is of things we see, And yet we trust it comes from thee, A beam in darkness, let it grow. Let knowledge grow from more to more, But more of reverence in us dwell, That mind and soul, according well, May make one music as before. M. E. A. is a statewide organization of certified music teachers of high schools and higher organizations of learning, all working for a common cause-to improve school music in Pennsylvania. Through the P. M. E. A. sponsored festivals, school musicians have acquired valuable and in- spirational stimuli: They have had the rare priv- ilege of working under the leadership of some i 63 of the country's finest musicians. This year Philipsburg played host to the P. M. E. A. with Leonard B. Smith, famous cornet soloist, composer, and conductor, directing. Under his capable leadership the group of ap- proximately l9O musicians presented a superb performance. Twenty-four musicians of P. H.S. participated in the concert, six of these receiving first seats. All Class Play Seven Keys to Baldpate, a mysterious melodramatic farce, was presented by an all- star cast of students, Friday evening, March 9, at the High School Auditorium. The play was directed by Robert J. Barnett while the cast consisted of members of the sopho- more, iunior and senior classes. It was staged on one of the most unique and elaborate stage settings ever produced in the Philipsburg High School Auditorium. The staging and lighting were under direction and managment of some 15 hands who erected a hotel lobby scene com- plete with a balcony, hotel switcboarcl, fireplace and other standard hotel lobby furniture. The story revolved around the plot of a young novelist, a writer of a melodrammer, who made a bet that he could write a novel with- in a 24-hour period. As the plot unfolded, it was revealed that he did not have the only key to Baldpate, but there were six other keys which considerably slowed down his progress and almost made him lose his bet as he was con- tinually interrupted with visitors and problems. The plot contained excitement, terror, fright, murder, theft, embezzlement, graft and surprise. The love interest was supplied by a young novel- ist and a lovely local news hen. All of these helped to make a very interesting production. Donna Harpster served as student director, Barbara Schiele as prompter and Bill Jaffe as publicity chairman. We now, as young men and women, face the life for which we have long prepared. Our goals are still a long way off, but because of the training we have received at this school, we will find them easier to reach. We proudly hail our school and her alma mater. Alma Mater Oh, Philipsburg, Oh, Philipsburg Our Alma Mater dear To thee we pledge our loyalty, Our love for future years. We sing your praises far and wide We hail your colors true Long may they wave triumphantly, For the glory of our school.
