Their untiring efforts to help make better students and citizens of tomorrow have made them friends to students, parents, and teachers alike. We feel that Mr. and Mrs. Adams are most worthy and deserving of this honor. For 12 years Mrs. Adams has been the able and competent director of our Home Economics Department. With much patience she has taught girls of Junior and Senior High cooking, sewing, and the general knowledge of the care of the home. Willingly she has served as advisor to refreshment committees for our school parties, has helped plan menus for the cafeteria and has been in charge of food for banquets. Without her, many of our social events might not have been a success. Mr. Adams has been a member of our faculty for three years. He teaches junior history and senior P. O. D. and during his first year he taught Sophomore history. In the sports department Mr. Adams has served as a coach of wrestling and football. Cheerfully he has managed and chaperoned the Juniors annual trip to Gettysburg, trying to the best of his ability to make it the most memorable event in our Junior year. Together Mr. and Mrs. Adams have added much to the success and happi- ness of the students who have attended school here. As our high school career is coming to a close, gratefully we extend our appreciation for the understanding Mr. and Mrs. Adams have shown us, wishing them much continued success and happiness in their teaching careers. 4 IIIII ADMINISTRATION Mr. Mr. Mr. Mrs. Mrs. Mrs. Mrs. Mr. Mr. Mr. Mrs. Mr. Mr. Mr. Mr. Board of School Directors Philipsburg Area Joint School Board Mr. Roy H. Junior Varsity Football The T953 Junior Varsity Football Squad, coached by Mr. Adams and Mr. Ammerman, was successful in having an unde- feated season. The boys on the team gained much experience which will be valuable in attaining an undefeated varsity foot- ball team forthe T954 season. Bellefonte 7 64 Philipsburg Varsity Football Review This year's football team made the student body of the Philipsburg High School very proud as it came through with the first undefeated season in thirteen years. We were very proud of the fine job Mr. Maddalena's boys did, and we will remember it as long as there are two members of the T954 Senior Class left to talk about it. Let's look at a brief resume of the game. Philipsburg 0 Johnsonburg 0 Right from the first, this game proved to be a thriller. Both teams fought gallantly, but neither team could cross the goal line for a score. Although the game was scoreless, it left. the fans in a frenzied state of mind until the final whistle. We could tell that we had the team of teams this year. Philipsburg 37 Morris Township 0 Again in the early part of the game we began making the score go up with some of the greatest ball handling that this school has ever seen. We were able to score 37 points without letting the opponent score to mar our perfect record. Philipsburg 30 Clearfield 6 We journeyed to Clearfield to meet the Bisons on their home field. Again we scored the first touchdown on a run by Barnett. Clearfield then made their only touchdown but failed to get the extra point. With the help of Barnett, Mumford, and Minarchick the scoreboard read 28-6. Dick Byers blocked a Clearfield punt to score a safety and the game ended with the score 30-6. Philipsburg 28 State College 0 The State College Little Lions met their mas- ters on the green carpet of the P-burg Memorial field the night of Oct. 23. Barnett made the first and most spectacular touchdown of the evening, covering a total of 73 yards for the score. With the combined efforts of punt blocking by Shed- lock, pass catching by Perks, line charging by Hummel and complete support from a well bal- anced line, Coach Maddalena's men were able, without too much trouble, to pile up a final score of 28-0. Philipsburg 34 Curwensville 0 We made our first touchdown in the early part of the game, and continued through the game to go over their team, around their team, and through their team many times with the help of Bob Mumford and his 2 T. D.'s. We were rolling now. Philipsburg 13 Hollidaysburg I3 Philipsburg fans took a deep breath as the Hollidaysburg team made the first touchdown. With the extra point the score was 7-0. P-burg came back into the game and made it 7-6. Although H-burg scored again, the try for the extra point was blocked, making the score T3-6. John Rusnak and Carl Perks kept P-burg's hopes alive with another touchdown and an extra point to make the score T3-13. Philipsburg 26 Tyrone 0 On Oct. 'I6 the Mounties iourneyed to Ty- rone in search of another victory. Bob Mum- ford made the first score with a running touch- down. The clicking combination of Barnett to Perks set the tally at 'I3-0, accomplished by a 44 yard pass from Barnett to Perks. Barnett drove through the line making Philipsburg's next touchdown to make the scoreboard read 'I9-0. The last touchdown was made as a result of a pass from Rusnak to McCamley, making the final score 26-O. Ninety-five yards in penalties was given for unnecessary roughness. Bellefonte The game between Bellefonte and P-burg originally scheduled for Nov. 6 was cancelled due to a heavy snowstorm. Although the Moun- taineers iourneyed to Bellefonte, dressed, and appeared on the field, the weather was too bad to play the game. Philipsburg 8 DuBois 7 On the night of October 30 fans from many schools filled the Memorial Stadium to capacity to witness the clash between the undefeated Mountaineers and the undefeated DuBois Beavers. DuBois made the first touchdown and fol- lowed through with a conversion to put them ahead 7-O. The score remained the same until the third quarter when John Rusnak, on a quar- terback sneak, made Philipsburg's only touch- down. The try for the extra point was no good and the score stood at 7-6 in favor of DuBois. About the middle of the fourth quarter, DuBois, after being driven back to their own goal line, was attempting a punt. Joe Shedlock blocked the punt and then fell on it, giving Phil- ipsburg the lead 8-7. The score remained the same until the final gun, leaving the Moun- taineers victorious over the Beavers. The gratitude and enthusiasm of the Phil- ipsburg rooters was shown by the fans pouring on to the field and tearing down the goal post, everyone seeking a souvenir of this long-to-be- remembered and exciting game. Philipsburg 39 Osceola 0 The traditional game between Osceola and Philipsburg again ended in favor of P-burg. Jim Hummel led the scoring for the night with 3 touchdowns. A pass from Barnett to Perks, cov- ering 55 yards, plus TO yards gained running was responsible for the next touchdown. After giving some members of the iunior varsity team a chance to make their first varsity appearance, the game ended with the score reading 39-O. 5 5 f?
