V a l I Dedication We, the graduating class of 1953, with pride and respect do dedicate our yearbook to Mr. Alfred I. Jones. A native of Philipsburg, Alf, attended school here and demonstrated prowess in athletics whether it was basketball, football, or baseball, and he excelled while doing it. After finishing college at Gettysburg he made his way into baseball and eventually the big league. He played with the Philadelphia Athletics until 1930. At the time he started a new career, one of teaching and coaching at Philipsburg High School. Through his years at Philipsburg High School he has coached baseball, football, wrestling and served as athletic director. When wrestling was in its infantile stage and hope of having it in Philipsburg High School looked very dim, Mr. Jones saved the day. Though his knowledge of wrestling was limited it is through his efforts that we have wrestling as it is today. Kindness, gentleness, cheerfulness and calmness are the qualities that endear him to all. Through his keen sense of humor, his never-ending patience and his consideration he has won the great admiration of the entire school. As a coach, a teacher and a friend of the student as well as the faculty, he has achieved success in its fullest measure. To you, Mr. Alfred I. Jones, with many thanks and great pleasure we make this dedication. 4 fr 'Q Wir: KZ' ,J 'f . I 'M ' 95' 13 :.I.
