Whether in front of the stage or be- hind the footlighs, the students have been made to feel the value of dramatic art. Comedy, tragedy, classic, and music have all been presented to appreciative audiences. With the inauguration of a merit system for the awarding of drama letters, the Dramatic Department entered a period of reorganization. In 1948 the first of a series of all-class plays was produced. Since then great strides have been made and those P. H. S. students participating in these productions will continue to derive pleasure from this important phase of high school life. We, the class of 1949, realizing its full value, do, there- fore, dedicate this our yearbook to the Dramatic Department of our school. 9: 2: aa 4 cc cc cc 6 . 7 1 N F WF 1.1 ,Q fix . Four short years ago we made our entrance and took our part in high school life. Now as Sen- iors, about to make our exit, we look with pride on the events which made this portion of our life so successful. We realize that it is time for us to relinquish our pasts to the oncoming classes and set out, each to find his own part on the stage of life. Let us pause for a moment to review together the outstanding events of these last four years. Do you remember those first few days when that exasperating word ufreshmenv was thrust at us from all sides? Just as were our predecessors, we, too, were jogged around by the rushing populationv who infested this vast new world. Our conscientious efforts to arrive at class on time were constantly hampered by the newly waxed floors. The election of class officers was of course filled with keen competition but we were pleas- ed with the results. These were the victorious four: President .,..,,,.,., .,.. B ob Bottomley Vice President ,.,...., George Czap Secretary .,..,,.. , . ,, Ralph Williams Treasurer .....,.,,................... Wilbur Bock During our Freshmen year, the Iunior High School basketball and football teams were reor- ganized for the first time since the war. Then came the day when we as students were hailed Sophomores,'. It was the first year that our class presented a dramatic production. It was a comedy entitled Don,t Take My Pennyf, As our leaders for class events we had: President ,.,..,.,.,.. ...,... . ..... C eorge Czap Vice President ,. . ,.., ,..,, E d Dugan Secretary ...... , .. ,,..,. Ed Branish Treasurer ..., , .,,.,. James Fermenti William Shakespeare After what seemed an eternity of waiting, we at last became upper classmenv-the rank which afforded the privilege of attending the Iun- ior-Senior Prom and competing in the D. A. R. Oratorical Contest. Our class production consist- ed of two one act plays: The Dabblersv and If Men Played Cards as Women Dof, The students who assumed class positions were: President ..,.,.... .,.... C eorge Czap Vice-President ......, .,.... B ob Bottomley Secretary .. ,..,., Maurice Watson Treasurer ,,., ..,..,...,,.,..,.,. L ee Williamson As we approached the final stage of our jour- ney, we had some of the pleasantest occasions of our school lives-the prom, a victorious year for our football team, the Senior banquet, the Wash- ington Trip, long hours of pageant practice, dreaded yet never to be forgotten. The students to assume the responsibility of guiding us in our most important year were: President . ....,,. ..., , . .,,.. George Czap Vice-President ....... . Ralph Williams Secretary ..,. . ...... Teresa Moslak Treasurer . . ,. ....,.. Marie Shufran As commencement approached we, with great reluctance, realized that in truth the final scene of this Act of our lives was drawing to a close. Although we left behind many friends and pleasant memories, we are prepared to find suc- cess and happiness in our future. ua1hL1f,e199 Most Popular Great men gain doubly when they make their foes their friends Teresa Moslak George Gzap MOST LIKELY TO SUCGEED Be satisfied with success in even the smallest matter, and think that even such a result is no trifle. - Elaine Jaffe G, Pete Mandel Most Pleasing Personality The only reward of virtue is virtueg the only way to have a friend is to he one. '11, .Aww For their annual presentation the seniors ably enacted the Mark Twain classic HA Connec- ticut Yankee in King Arthur's Courtv on Novem- ber l2. In this dramatization the young engineer was knocked cold by his own experiment and awakened to find himself in the Court of King Arthur. He immediately began to create a smooth-running, twentieth century corporation and the series of contrasts between the old and new and the good and had provided an abun- dance of humor. December 6, found this same group of hard- working seniors at Juniata College viewing the Margaret Webster Shakesperian Production of KHamlet. The trip was arranged by Mr. R. J. 'iTriHcs,'i a farm-life drama by Susan Glas- pell, represented the murder of a man by his wife. To the young state attorney, the evidence was only triHes,v but to two sympathetic women, these triiles read a tale of heartbreak and tra- gedy. The second of the two plays was dis- tinguished by its effective stage scenery.
