KLA pdfafe 661450 The Cleft Palate Clinic is a service of the Cleft Pal- ate Division, Department of Health and was organized at the Philipsburg Hospital in T949 by Cloyd S. Har- kins, D. D. S., Director of the Clinic, tor the complete rehabilitation of children and adults born with cleft palate and cleft lip. The Clinic is held once a month where a detailed diagnostic study is made for each patient. The Clinic Staff is composed ot Robert L. Harding, M. D., Plastic Surgeon, Harrisburg, Cloyd S. Harkins, D. D. S., and William R, Harkins, D. D. S., Prosthodontia and Ortho- dontia, Osceola Mills, Eugene T. McDonald, D. Ed., Speech Therapy, State College, and James H. Black- well, M. Ed., Psychologist, Cleartield. Consultants: James P. Scott, M. D., Medical Advisor, Harry G. Shaf- fer, M. D., Otolaryngologist, Clearfield, Thomas S. Mebane, M. D., Pediatrician. The Clinic Staff is as- sisted by Miss Mary Slegal, R. N., and Miss Mary E. Rowles, R. N., State Public Health Nurses, and Miss Vivian H. Matson, Secretary. QQ gmc Because of the need tor service in prevention of blindness in rural areas, the Department of Welfare, State Coun- cil for the Blind, inaugurated this service in 1938. Dr. William Angle of Williams- port had charge of the service, later Dr. H. Ford Clark of Huntingdon took charge. Many persons with cataracts, glau- come, medical and surgical eye condi- tions, receive treatment through this facility. An eFfort is made to assist each person who comes to the clinic to get the help needed in the treatment ot their eye condition.

V 'W' l Qrfiroloecfic 661150 One of the Clinics held at the Philips- burg State Hospital which gives us an opportunity to help in the transforma- tion of many young lives from an out- look of hopelessness and despair to that of hopefulness and a courageous facing of the future is the Crippled Children's Clinic. For more than twenty-five years, these Clinics have been held at the Phil- ipsburg State Hospital. The Hospital provides the room and the facilities of the Operating Room, X-ray and Physiotherapy. The Clearfield and Centre Counties Society for Crippled Children pays the Surgeon and his as- sistant and also pays for corrective ap- pliances such as braces, shoes, and crutches for the children whose parents are unable to do so. The Service rendered to these crip- pled children are of the highest quality obtainable. Dr. Royal L. Simon of Wil- liamsport, Pennsylvania is the present Orthopedic Surgeon and is very ably as- sisted by Dr. John Shoff, a member of our Hospital Staff. newmolieraloy 661450 The Pneumotherapy Clinic, in charge of Dr. George Taylor, is a service to tubercular patients receiving collapse therapy under the program of the State De- partment of Health. Treatment of these patients is started in one of the State Tuberculosis Sanatoriums and is continued here following their discharge. This service makes it possible for these persons, who may be under this care for several years, to be at home with their families. Some whose physical condition permits light types of employment, may be able to do some work and be treated at the same time. 38 link-
