'L in 'N ' 1 eh K lj .. 9 ' Miss Martha Lee Maguire was born in Mor- risdale, Pennsylvania on September 27, 1911, attended school there and graduated in June, 1930. She entered training at Philipsburg State Hospital in September 1930, graduating from the school in 1933. During her years in training she experienced different conditions from those of today. The students worked 7 to 7 shift on days with 2 hours off. When working nights it was a straight 7 to 7 shift. She was accustomed to stay- ing on duty until the work was finished may it be 7 or 9 and worked the 2 hours off duty during many busy times. Miss Maguire worked at Philipsburg State Hospital as a graduate on general staff and worked for a while as relief supervisor. In 1938 she became supervisor of second floor which in- cluded Women's Floor fmedical and surgicalj, Pediatrics, Maternity. In 1942 a Pediatric super- visor was supplied. At the present time she has complete charge of the surgical wards. As a pastime Miss Maguire's interests in- clude reading, swimming, and sports. As advice to new students, Miss Maguire feels that if they follow instructors' and super- visors' instructions and remember that the patient comes first they will have no trouble with train- ing.
