Main Gunnery Control Commence Firing! Mount Five lets loose Load! After the first few days of the voyage, in- tensified training began for the Gunnery De- partment. Drills Were conducted as the lst and 2nd Divisions manned the 5 Mounts and the 3rd, 4th and 6th Divisions took their stations on the 40 MM Mounts. Fire control directors, manned hy F-1 Division, searched for and tracked imaginary targets as they uattaekedn the ship.

A Bow 40's Every man Went about his duties intently and seriously, realizing all to well that in the not too distant future those imagined targets may very well be real and deadly enemies. And as if this event Was being anticipated, 5th Division Was busy rigging life lines, checking life rafts and issuing life jackets. No one ever Wanted to give much thought to the prospect of abandoning ship, yet We would be ready if it should become reality. Checking tloater nets . . .
