. . the crew III The 3,000 officers and men on board comprised a crew of which many were returning to the Far East for the second time. However, veterans or not, each of them had a job to do. With the departure from San Diego, each group of specially trained men, or Divisions, set about those duties either in actuality or by way of simulated but realistic drills. Below decks in the shipis engine rooms M Division was on the job as the four massive screws drove us west- ward. Members of her crew stood by the lines as final farewells were made between crewmen and loved ones below on the dock. Then the words HCast oil all lines -the long, single tone of a bugle de- noting the ship was no longer bound to her berth echoed out over the hushed crowd. The heavily-laden carrier moved slowly out into the bay, her rails lined with men seeking a final glimpse of wives, sweethearts and friends as they moved to the edge of the dock-faces became smaller with the increasing distance until they could no longer be identified-the Second Korean Cruise had begun. faces become smaller. . .
