Www SIG EP HELPS IN EXPANDING CO THE MARKETING SOCIETY The Philadelphia Eagles visited the Textile campus during the spring semester and it was more than a social visit. The Eagles were here to help the Marketing Society with a benefit basketball game to help fight a disease that, thankfully none of the participants presently have to deal with. The student team was made up of rattle winners and the Eagles played the student team to no avail, as the students beat the Eagles, but only in baslset- ball. The Marketing Society collected quite a bit of money for their charitable cause and a good time was had by the players and the spectators of the baslsetball game. Two mojor donotions of textiles to the Design Center, one from Mr. Gilbert G. Clorls of Orinolso ond the other from Mrs. Dorothy Gordner, offered us the opportu- nity to present this importont show. Within the six week period, from Feb. 25 to April 17, hundreds of people were ottrocted to the gollery to view the designs of o most unique period of our post. Discovering the styles ond foorics thot influenced mony of todoy's foshions ond designs wos on exciting experience. The richly oeoded dresses of sills, chiffon, ond sotin olong with the ort deco designs in the first gollery reflected the flomboyont life style thot wos to lost until the economic collopse of the eorly 3O's. The growth of modernism in thot decode mirrored ci foscinotion with technology ond the dominoce of Hollywood. X Ik I 'iff' THE GFFICE 0F THE PRESIDENT It is a pleasure to offer congratulations to you, the Class of 1982, and to wish each of you health, success and happiness as you leave PCTGS. The opportunity given to me to be associated vvith students over the years as Director of Admissions and Placement, Dean of Students, VP. and Dean of the College and most recently as President is an exper- ience I shall always treasure. lt has been a rare privi- lege to have lsnovvn so many fine young men and women. My only regret is that in recent years time has not permitted the close relationship vvith students that I formerly enjoyed. Life styles change but students today seem little different than those three decades ago. l-lair styles go from short to long and short again-jeans become the uniform of youth - the preppy lools returns but stu- dents have the same aspirations, hopes and fears as those of yesteryear. Commencement is a beginning - the entry to a new era and new phase of your life. Understandably graduates approach this time with a mixture of enthu- siasm, confidence and some apprehension. The nevvs media which apparently thrives on controversy, catas- trophy and prophets of doom would have you be- lieve that the world is heoded for disaster. Having heard this before I suspect that the future is much brighter. Many other graduating classes have faced critical times and not only survived but prospered. l trust so vvill you.
