in memnriztm william ,Stephens Although he had retired from teach- ing at Textile before he died, this book would not be complete without a memoriam to Mr. Stephens. William Stephens was a graduate of Harvard, A. B. f1928J, and Boston University, Ed. M 419361. He taught at various schools and worked as a mathemati- cian before coming to Textile. Pro- fessor Stephens served on the Fac- ulty from September, 1955 and, with enthusiasm and faithful attention to the task, taught his students mathe- matics and kinematics. He accommo- dated changing times by developing new courses in math. In later days, despite ill health, he gave unstinting- ly ofhistime and energy to solvetheir classroom problems. Thirteen years and many students later, on June 1, 1968, he resigned, and on June 30, he passed away. The friendly gusto en- compassing this man is sorely missed by his colleagues and stu- dents.
