MY DEAR GIRLS: The title ot your class book has set me thinking oi the low white posts which l used to delight in counting as l was driven slowly along quiet country lanes on the lazy summer after- noons ot my childhood. Are there still milestones? Our stream-lined cars speed over our perfect roads tar too rapidly tor us to note such in- significant marks of insignificant distances. The horse of my childhood considered eight miles a good day's work. Today we drive twice eighty miles for luncheon or dinner. Vlfhat does it mean? lt may be that we are wiser and better because we have mastered time and space. lt may be that we are losing something of the depth and richness ot a less hurried, more intimate journey. Wliatever the truth may be, it is important that you treasure the suggestion of your yearbook. There are mile- stones whether we see them or not. lt is for us to interpret their meaning and to nialce sure that we can present lor their inexorable reckoning miles which have been travelled with courage, dignity and understanding. Sincerely yours, at iz .
