science dedication JOHN J. BRENNAN In Dedication to John Brennan From the Science Graduates of 1979 For the last four years, we the Science graduates of 1979 have represented the SN of PCPS. Though they were not always easy years to get through, get through we did. But we cannot take all the credit for our accomplishments. There were many people at PCPS who helped us, but it was always John who was there when we needed someone. John-our teacher, confidant, baby- sitterw, and always our friend. We dedicate our yearbook to John, in thanks for all his help, caring and understanding. 354 ll-' i' had mllwl od 'La

Members of the Class of '79 Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science Dear Students , This year has a special meaning for both you and me. For you it is graduation when you leave the academic world to assume your professional role. For me it is a sabbatical year when I leave the College for a temporary assignment in industry. We both are entering the real world. Some of the observations I have made apply to you. The first thing which is evident is the fact that the curriculum in which you have participated is current and will provide you with a suitable background whatever your professional assignment may be. ' In this you must be confident and this confidence will serve you well. Second, I have been surprised by the number and variety of opportunities available for which you have a suitable background and in which you could continue to grow professionally. However, you want to be cognizant of the condition on which all opportunities are prefaced. While a degree will be s key and open a door, what you do then will no longer depend on degree, courses, and class standing, but it will be determined essentially by your- selves. You all have talents and strengths. You may or may not have identified them as yet, but they tend to become evident with time. These are the characteristics which determine your progress. Then as you gain experience, you will be able to see opportumities that now would be difficult for you even to comprehend. Thus my wish for each of you is that you can find an opportunity in which you as an individual can use your particular strengths and continue to grow. It can be satisfying and fulfilling, but it all depends on you. mf Robert E. King, Ph.D. Professor of Industrial Pharmacy Feb ruary , 197 9

PENNSYLVANIA l9l04 Phorvti IZISJ EV 6-5800 Founded IUI DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY May 1, 1979 Dear Members of the Science Class of 1979: It is an honor to have been selected by your class as the Science Yearbook dedication in l979. It has been my privilege to work with each of you as a graduate student, and to eventually know each of you as friends. We were students together at PCPS from l975 to 1979, and we shared many common experiences. Our initial contact was a formal one, probably as instructor to student. I must quickly admit however, that we learned and relearned our subject of chemistry together, whether it was in recitation or laboratory, or in our ,.. .-, ,-,.. many private discussions of the subject. Your undergraduate science education has been far superior to mine: in helping you to operate the Mettler Balance or in solving a quantitative analysis problem, you have helped me develop a special perspective of my own career as a student. We have invested much time and effort together at PCPS as students, and now we have to develop our investment care- fully as we pursue careers and lifestyles. To maximize our educational efforts, we have to be ready and willing to take advantage of opportunity in our professional and private lives. The passage of time is going to blur the memory of our formal relationship as instructor to student, and may even erase some of the intellectual horsepower we traded in the pursuit of our academic careers. Please know that I will never forget any of you as friends: you comprise the fondest memories of my days as a graduate student. Good luck and good wishes to all of you, and may you live every day of your lives. Sincerely, aQ'4 'f?2h-. dn.- John J. Brennan JJB:mr
