V i. ii . as apiena' IN DEDICA TION It is with great pleasure that we the Class of Nineteen Hundred and Sixty-Nine dedicate this Graduate to Dr. Edwin T. Sugita, Associate Professor of Pharmacy. A graduate of Purdue University in 1959, he went on to receive his Doctorate in Pharmaceutics in 1963. Dr. Sugita, as did our class, came to PCP8cS in 1964. Since then he has been known to all for his sincere under- standing of the students' problems and his liberal philos- ophy. His door is always open for us to say hello, share our joys and accomplishments or seek guidance in times of uncertainty. Now, as we graduate, we wish to express our genuine appreciation. Dr. Sugita will always be loved, respected, and remembered for his unselfish devotion of time, ideas and energies to us, and for his inculcation of high ideals and standards within. Dr. Edwin T. MULLAN Ray Mullan, our outstanding basketball and baseball coach, passed away on September 16, 1968 at the age of 55. He came to the college in 1961 and since then helped develop for us a successful record on the PCPSLS court. Under his direction, the basketball team has won two Delaware Valley Conference Championships in addition to tying for the Championship one season and finishing second another. In 1964 he successfully coached our baseball team to the Conference Championship. He will always be remembered not only by those who were directly associated with him, but by the entire stu- dent body. We will be forever grateful to him for the rec- ognition he has brought to our Alma Mater. Alpha Delta Theta, a national Medical Technology sorority, was founded at Marquette University in con- junction with the University of Minnesota, on February l, 1944. Since that time, we have proven to be an actively growing organization, our present roll call consisting of over thirty chapters throughout the country. In 1952 ADT became a member ofthe Professional Panhellenic Association. Our chapter, Alpha Iota, was installed on May 19, 1967, with Barbara Zylwitis as the first president. Our sorority has for its objectives the promotion of so- cial and intellectual cooperation and fellowship among medical technologists. The sorority also intends to intro- duce us to the profession we have chosen and to raise the prestige of the medical technologist here at the College. Membership is limited to those who are enrolled in the medical technology curriculum on campus. The sorority also includes honorary members who are elected at the National Convention. Prerequisites for sorority membership include scholar- ship, high moral ideals, leadership, responsibility, and enthusiasm in the-field of medical technology. This soror- ity serves as a link between women who are practicing medical technologists and those who are aspiring to that goal. 68 Cl 6 I Cl 6 Z Cl ,.f'L,,.,,SRNNg3gxp!wE,t tif! Alpha Zeta Omega Alpha Zeta Omega was founded at PCP8LS over forty years ago. From the beginning, AZO spread to schools of pharmacy throughout the nation providing not only colle- giate but also alumni chapters. Alumni chapters play an integral part in the fraternity. These chapters support the colleges with undergraduate chapters through scholarships, awards, and prizes in the name of the fraternity. One such award is the AZO schol- arship given at PCPQSLS every year to a third year stu- dent. The fraternity also extends grants to its members in order to help them financially ifthe need arises. Fraternity functions are usually held in conjunction with AZO's chapter at Temple. Live bands are usually present at these parties. The rush- party this year was held at the Shelron in Northeast Philadelphiag it was here that the selection of AZO's 1969 Sweetheart, Miss Frances Benulis was announced. Alpha Zeta Omega provides for its members a bond of friendship to be held throughout their college years, and an everlasting fraternalism via alumni chapters. Omicron Chapter was founded at PCP8cS on February 22, 1945, with Eleanor Brown Gordon as the first president. The purposes of Kappa Epsilon meet many professional and social needs. Our goals are scholarship, leadership, service, and bonds of friendship. The women of Kappa Epsilon take a deep pride in their chosen profession and work to serve its interest. Members take an active part in chapter and province meetings and other special events. Annually, two representatives from Omicron attend the KE National Convention. Kappa Epsilon fulfills many rewarding social functions at the Col- lege. Annually, KE sponsors the Sweetheart Dance and Assembly, at which the Queen of the College is chosen. Two rush parties were held for the incoming freshmen: the first being a treasure hunt and the second a night at the Hawaiian Cottage. The dinner dance once again was at the Inn of the Four Falls. Aid for the poor and underprivi- leged this year, included sending drugs to hospitals in Europe and an Easter party for crippled children. Omicron Chapter also has close contact with its alumnae. This year we were happy to give a testimonial dinner for Mary Lou An- derson, a distinguished alumna of Omicron Chapter. As the 1968-69 school year comes to an end, we the Sisters of KE wish to congratulate our graduating seniors and all members of the Class of '69, 72 Pledging, 1969 What's new pussycat? Kappa Psi Fraternity was founded in l879. Today Eta Chapter, chartered at PCP8cS in 1902, is one of fifty-six collegiate chapters. The principles of scholarship, leadership, industry, and high ideals - first and foremost in the goals of Kappa Psi members A are readily seen at PCP8cS. In addition to our share of Scholarship Award Winners and Dean's List Qualifiers in the past year, Kappa Psi men were the leaders and avid supporters of virtually all the College's programs, from Student Council to intercollegiate athletics. The men of Eta Chapter conducted a hectic social schedule throughout the '68-'69 school year. Beginning in September with the annual Open House celebration, the social calendar was full of extravaganzas such as the tra- ditional Christmas Party and the wildest Spring Week- end of them all. The Saturday night formal was the usual gala affair with gifts presented from the membership to the outgoing officers of the past year, in tribute to their hard work and dedication. Following final examinations the brothers returned to the fraternity house for a final and monumental party in honor of our graduating seniors. The brothers were proud since the largest class in many years celebrated as brother undergraduates for the last time. The brothers of Kappa Psi congratulate the members of the 1969 Senior Class and offer our best wishes for a successful future. LEFT T0 RIGHT, FIRST ROW: J. Brunetti G. Schneiter, J. Wilson, Jr.. L. Eta Chapter of Lambda Kappa Sigma was founded on February 9, 1920. Since that time it has grown into the larg- est chapter in the world. During the summer of '68, several girls attended the twentieth biennial convention held in Indianapolis, Indiana. Eta collegiates and alumnae were proud to have the largest representation. At this time, Lambda was renamed as a fra- ternity for women, Mrs. Curran, Advisor of Eta Chapter, was reelected Grand Secretary, and Eta received the bid for the 1970 biennial convention. The year began with the Freshman Tea which was super- vised by the Lambs. The theme of the first rush party was The Evolution of the Twentieth Century Woman, and the second rush party was held at the Inn of the Four Falls. Other annual events were the Fraternity Review, Dinner Dance, Senior Dinner, bake sales, and the apothecary jar raffie for the benefit of Project Hope. The sisters also ush- ered at the dedication of the McNeil Research Building, participated in intramural bowling, and helped Kappa Psi, our brother fraternity, with their rush parties. Other events with the brothers included a spaghetti dinner and a basket- ball game. Eta has six sisters graduating this year, best of luck to them and to the entire senior class. 76 Sock it to me! The professional pharmacy fraternity of Phi Delta Chi strives to promote and further the high ideals set forth in our profession. Phi Delta Chi was founded on November 2, 1883 by eleven men at the University of Michigan who were dedicated to the ideals of brother- hood, loyalty, and friendship. The scholastic year of 1968-69 was one of excitement and learning and had a full schedule of activities in all phases of college life. As always our social calendar reflected the attitude of our brother- hood. With the fine help of the sisters of Kappa Epsilon, the annual spaghetti dinner was a great success. There was the Halloween Party with prizes going to the best costumes. The Christmas weekend was packed with cheer! Decorating the house was a party in itself, with the help of cocktails. The Dinner Dance was held at the Hawaiian Cottage in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, which included the installation of the new officers, Alumni attended this affair and a good time was held by all. Athletically, Phi Del had its normal successful year. The intra- mural basketball team A finished high in the playoffs. The foot- ball team again went undefeated while the bowling team showed the sportsmanship inherent in Phi Del men. Many additions to the house have taken place: new rugs for the stairway, new furniture for the chapter room, and remodeling of the second and third floor bathrooms. The basement and kitchen will be our future remodeling projects. Phi Delta Chi ends the college year by extending its congratula- tions to the senior class. 78 SS 12 , Donna Monek Sweetheart of l969 Halloween Party October, l968 The-:re's nothing lower than at pledge Fraternity Night all Rutgers-PCPSLS basketball game Received Award for Best Attendance. This has been an exciting year for the brothers of Rho Pi Phi. Our year began with a gala affair given by the brothers for themselves and their dates at the Latin Casi- no. After acclimating ourselves to another school year, our next big gathering was a huge Halloween party given by Alan Levay as the first of our many farewell senior parties. Next the brothers produced a rush party that included a stop at the Latin Casino which turned out to be a great success. This was succeeded by another rush party that was again at the Latin but included the entire evening. For New Year's Eve we were invited to join forces with the B'nai B'rith Pharmacy Lodge for an evening at the Ivy Stone Inn. Next stop was Boston, Mass. for a conclave sponsored by two Boston chapters. This included a visit to the Bos- ton Hutch of the Playboy Club. Immediately following finals our Temple brothers and we had a two day party at the shore including dinner at Zaberers and a bit of sun- ning on the beach. The brothers would like to extend our greetings to our new brothers for this year and say so long to those graduating. We hope to see all the brothers this summer in Miami Beach for the International Convention to mark our 50th anniversary. The daily meeting of the B'Nui B'rith. We are an independent fraternity, formed by a group of men with high ide- als, who wished to pass down traditions that would be a part of the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science. To celebrate our fiftieth anniversary, we have undertaken a reno- vation ofthe first floor of the fraternity house. This was begun by our fall pledge class and will be completed by the end of the academic year. Our fall term was a social success rounded out by house parties, the Holly Hop and Christmas Party, held this year for the children from the Catholic Social Services. This success was carried into the spring term and was highlighted by a concert featuring The Child- ren of the Nightf, our initiation dinner at Lucien's Old Tavern, New Jersey, and the Annual Spring Weekend. This year we have chosen Miss Linda Marano as our Sweetheart. Linda is a second year medical technology major and a member of Alpha Delta Theta. We present her to you with pride and hope the remainder of her time at PCPSLS will be fruitful. The brothers of Upsilon Sigma Phi and our advisor, Dr. Solomon, extend congratulations to the 1969 graduates, with the hope that they will recall the good times and fraternalism so much a part of USP. Class Advisor To the Class of 1969: The years of your undergraduate education have sped by for all ofus. These past four or five years have seen the world shaken with unrest and war, our country plagued by civil disobedience and our colleges awakened to the demands and needs of our students. One area which has remained steadfast through these trying times has been the educational and professional programs which you have received at the college. Each of you as graduates, not only will be the recipients of a baccalaureate degree, but you will also be the heirs to the traditions and responsibilities which are fundamental to the scientific professions. For many your formal education will now terminate. To these young men and women I express my sincere best wish- es, but I also caution that to best serve mankind one must remain tuned in to his profession, the people and the world throughout his lifetime. To those among you who will continue your education through graduate school or other professional outlets, I wish you well and I pray that your future training integrated with your basic education here, will give you the knowledge and the desire to serve humanity as researchers, teachers and clinicians. To all of you I would like to give something to remember me by, other than my outspoken critiques of the antivivisec- tion movement. My legacy to you, the Class of 1969, is an old motto prominently displayed in my office which continual- ly sets the tone for my dealings with people and with scientific research. Help me to change that which I cannot accept, Help me to accept that which I cannot change, And Lord, help me to distinguish one from the other. Being a part of the faculty which has contributed to your professional development has been a source ofimmense satis- faction to me. I confidently look forward to your achieving a full measure of success in your professional endeavors - each of you making your own contribution in your own personal and distinct way. With warmest personal regards, I remain Sincerely, f k 117 ' ' Elias W.
