0RATO N,,.d MR. GORDON A. CURTIS, Director v ease? 5 E ' RIAL IHHETY Every Wednesday evening since October seventeenth, sounds of sweet harmony have been heard ushering from the chapel. A look inside reveals the one hundred and ten members of the Oratorio Society rehearsing under the direction of Mr. Gordon Curtis. Mr. t'urtis's purpose in organizing the group was to train students in vocal principles and in the presentation of the oratorios of famous composers. The group made its first appearance at the Christmas party where they gave portions of Handel's Messiah The soloists assisting were: Miss Arlene Haas, Mr. Gordon Curtis, Miss Beatrice Lutz, and Mr. Benjamin Johnson. Miss Mildred Evans provided the piano accompaniment. ln the chapel period preceding the Christmas vacation the school was favored by a special arrangement of t'Silent Night . Subsequent to these activities, officers were elected for the second semester. Gerald Rineer was placed in the position of president and lYalter Heilig was made vice-president. The oftice of secretary-treasurer was tilled by Sara Jane Brubaker. This election was a sign of advancement in the Society. With anticipation it looks forward to added service rendered to the Lord in the field of music. 79
