60155 History As seniors in the class of 1959, preparing to take leave of the school and faculty which we have known for the past three years, we can look back on many thrilling 'adventures' spent with the 'captain' and 'mates' of the Phenix Baby Pirates. In September 1956, we recall our first days in the Phenix family, when we were struggling to get our 'sea legs' and accustom our- selves to the traditions which have been in practice since the school's beginning. Our class was a diversified one, making academic achievements as well as contributing to our many 'victory battles. Thanks to the guidance of our sponsors, Mrs. Cooke and Mrs. Fitchett, and our capable class officers, we were soon integrated with the rest of the students. Coming back the following year, and advanced a step farther, we prepared to honor the senior class at the annual Junior-Senior Prom. Because of the hard work of our officers and committees, the event is considered one of the most memorable of our high school days. That year, some of the efforts of our more diligent students were recognized. Thomasenia Mann, state president of the F. B. L. A. , attended the National Conference in Kansas. Yernell Powell won a scholarship from the Bland Music Contest. Still others attained the honor roll and honorable mention for the year. Now as we are terminating our high school education, many are looking forward to entering colleges, and others will secure jobs in the community. We hope that Phenix will not soon forget us, for we will always cherish the memories of happy and profit- able high school days.
