Bobby, a good ball handler and an excellent shot, was captain of the team this year. Eugene who was the pivot man this year was proably one of the smallest centers in the county or in the state. Gene was leading scorer for Phelps this year, get ting most of the rebounds for Phelps against opponents, who were much taller than he. L Wren .feadeu After a few weeks at the beginning of the school term students desiring to become cheerleaders are chosen through a series of elimination in which arm movement, grace, cheering and moving ability are the main factors judged. The cheer- leaders practice under the capable direction of R.B. Newsom, head of the English Department, are then ready to assu e their new task. The basketball cheerleaders of 1950-51 are Ruby Hamilton, and Mildred Ratliff, Seniors, Delrhea Charles, Junior. Bobbie Jean Hamilton and Aretta Vanhoose, Fresh en. These cheerleaders capable of their duties were always on hand to help cheer their team through victories as well as defeats. They lead yells such as: Hadacol, Military Express, Wacky Woo and other yells to suit everyone. All in all it has been a job well done. WWW -1
