Class Hotto.... One For All All For One' Class Flowor.... Yellow Rose Senior Class Historyi We, the 1950-51 Seniors of Phelps High School began a tour through our educational field in September l9h7 as Freshmen. It was on this day that 78 intelligent looking Freshmen marched through the door of P.H.S. We were very successful that year to be only beginners. we had the honor of winning in a Halloween Carnival King and Queen race of P.H.S. The Queen was Ruth Carol Dotson and the King was Shelton Norris. lhen we were Sophomores the number was decreasing but we werent discouragedg we traveled on. By the beginning of the second semester we were accustomed to being called uSloppymores' but at the end of that year every so-called 'Sloppymore' was ready to plan his schedule as a Junior except a few fellow classmen, who were either married or serving Uncle Sam. The Junior year started with a new sponsor, R.B. Newsom and many activities. What a year? Sock hops, hay rides, weinner roasts, hamburger frys and occasion parties for Halloween, Valentine Day and Christmas. The Juniors led in the majority of the races that year including the Sweetheart king and queen race. Queen, Bobbie Tanner and Ernie Maples, King were chosen by the Junior class to compete against one couple from each class. The Juniors-won again. The year was climaxed by the Junior- Senior Banquet, a lovely Hawaiian setting, for the upperclassmen. The month of September 1950 we began our final year of school. The Seniors presented a very enjoyable mystery comedy play entitled nTiger Housen. Those participating in the play were: Elmo Tibbs, Ruby tae Charles, Bobbie Tanner, Ellen Stevens, Phoebe Charles, Ernie Maples, Sammy Schaffer, Shelton Norris and Jimmy Maynard. The play was a huge success. An estimate of the proceeds was S25O.. These proceeds will be for the Senior trip to Florida as it will be their last tour together. Many activities were sponsored by the Seniors such ass Sock hops, hamburger frys, weinner roasts and occasional activities. Two seniors, Edith Mae Dotson and Shelton Norris were chosen as participants for the King and Queen contest to compete with a king and queen from each class, naturally, Shelton and Edith won with the total of 8582.76. We will long remember nsneak day' on which we sneaked away from school and the teachers except our sponsor and went to Pinnacle Rock in Virginia. Our last memories will be of Commencement week activities. Now we bid farewell to the rest of the students of Phelps High School. Class Colors 'Maroon And White Class Sponsor R.B Newsom
