I got a special phone call. The voice at the other end of the wire told me that I was accepted to be an American Field Service Student. When I heard that the place I was going, was Texas, and more, Rio Grande Valley, 1 became so glad that I jumped twice and yelled as loud as I could. Every moment I have been here has been wonderful. 1 have learned much about your country, but 1 hope that also you have learned something new about Finland. But the best way to study a country, is to visit it. I think the Valley is rather familiar for me, as I have lived here almost a year. I am also going to see some other parts of the U. S. From there the Bulldogs carried across in a scries of plays. In the second half, the Bears fumbled a kick off return, and the Bulldogs again recovered on the Bear 21. In the fourth period, the Bears failed on a fourth down run. Kats' Florence then passed to Ray Solis for the winning touchdown and the Bears were victims of an upset. Early in the game Bailey and Tanner led the first Bear drive that ended in a score. Again in the second quarter Tanner, Garza, and Bailey led a Bear drive to score. The Bears drove to a third score late in the third quarter. Garza, Cantu, and Moreno led the final Bear scoring drive, with Moreno scoring to give the Bears a 28-0 win. Early in the first quarter. Eagle Rene Salinas recovered a Bear fumble on the PSJA 15 yard line. From there Caldwell carried into the end zone to give the Eagles a brief lead. Then Bailey broke loose for 37 yards and the Bears' first score. In the third quar ter, Bailey ended a Bear drive by running 44 yards to his second touchdown. In the fourth quarter, Joe Garza charged around right end for the final Bear touchdown. The inspired Bear defense held the Eagles helpless after the opening moments of the game. Both teams exhibited strong defenses as neither team was able to cross the goal line. Robstown's speedsters, Hayes and Hawkins were stopped by the fierce Bear defense. The Bears drove to the Cottonpicker 12 in the second quarter but couldn’t score. Later Tanner returned a punt 48 yards, but the play was nullified by a penalty. In the fourth quarter the Bears went 27 yards to the 'Picker 5 yard line. From here Garza kicked true for the only score of the bitterly fought contest. The Tigers recovered a Bear fumble, and Jesse Villarreal passed to Gonzales for the lone Tiger score. Then Bailey and Salinas led another long Bear march which ended with Bailey going over for the Bears’ second score. Bailey and Salinas scored in the third and fourth quarters. The Bears quickly drove 61 yards, and Bailey went over. The Bears recovered a Panther fumble, and Bailey scored again. In the third quarter, Fuentes made Weslaco's only score. Later, Garza and Bailey led the last Bear drive, with Bailey crashing over from the five. Thus ended the 1965 season. Although the Bears rated only a third place in 16 AAA, the Maroon and White, with its rampaging backs and crushing defense, was the best team in South Texas at the season’s end.
