I felt a little tense and uncertain when I stepped off the plane in McAllen, but from the first day here I have been so happy to see how friendly, helpful, and understanding you all are to someone from another country like me. I have really enjoyed the many school activities. I have enjoyed every bit of the tough and exciting games the fine Bears have played. New games to me were football, basketball, and baseball. Being a Bearette helped me very much to understand and be excited over football. I truly hope I can come back to PSJA and the wonderful Valley someday in the future. I also wish to see you in my country. 99 Texas Sandy Skinner Jean Stohler Molly Doffing Girls’ and Boys’ State Fred Seitz Jack Wittenburg Robert Saenz Mike Trominski Billy Nash 100 Mu Alpha Theta Mrs. Baker Miss Carman Vice President Celeste Buchanan President Mike Trominski Secretary Tomas Garcia Mrs. Saulsbury Mrs. Palmer Delaine Dalager Current Events Club Linda Towns Shirley Trevathan Members 102 Officers: Jaime Rodriguez Consuelo Garza Mike Cox Members Officers: Bob Card Kathaleen Linnard Robert Saenz Sponsor: Miss Carman Sponsor: Mrs. Saulsbury Number Sense Members V - UP- r Other Y-Teen Officers Y-Teens Polly Lohr President Celeste Buchanan Vice President Marva Martin Secretary Miss Emma Martinez Sponsor Sandy Skinner Treasurer Nagy, Brent, Hetrick, Barerra, Warden, Seitz, Graves, Nash, Seitz, Powers, Card, Jensen, Henderson, Crutchfield. Starter 187 State Score PSJA 6 NEDERLAND 6 PSJA won everything but the score and had to settle for a 6-6 tie with the Nederland Bulldogs in the season opener. Freddy Seitz crossed the double stripe in the second quarter to produce a come-from-behind deadlock. Nederland scored first on a 68 yard run by fleet John Adams. Seitz later tied it up with an 11 yard sprint. PSJA 12 EDINBURG 0 Jody Powers exploded for 58 yards in the second period, and Jeff Champion swept around left end for 37 yards to set up the other score as the Bears shut out the Bobcats. The Bobcat attack carried to the 11 yard line in the first half, but was held by a stout Bear defense. With seconds remaining, the defense again stopped another Bobcat drive. PSJA 0 SAN BENITO 0 Once again the record books were thrown away as the Mighty Mites and the Greyhounds clashed in the district opener. It was a brilliant defensive game, as D. Cantu and Willingham led the Bears in stopping San Benito's offense. PSJA threatened several times, but penalites halted their drives, and the game once again ended in a 0-0 deadlock. PSJA 31 RIO GRANDE CITY 0 The Bears scored three touchdowns in the first half, then capitalized on Rattler mistakes to score two more in the second half. Bear defense proved strong by cutting off Rattler marches, one of which went to the Bear one yard line. Touchdowns were made by Champion, Hernandez, D. Cantu and Fred Seitz, making a score of 31-0. PSJA 41 MISSION 7 The Bears uncorked their best offensive game of the season to crush the Eagles 41-7. Champion rolled over from the four to end a 76 yard drive. This started a parade of touchdowns by Warden, who scored three times, and Champion who also scored three times. Facile kicked a field goal to end the scoring. PSJA 35 ROBSTOWN 8 For a Homecoming victory, the Bears trampled Robstown 35-8. Seitz scored first on a 14 yard run, followed by Champion with two scores in the first half.
