PANTHER PAW 1980-’81 Pflugerville High School Pflugerville, Texas Volume XXVI The Annual Staff would like to dedicate the 1980-81 Panther Paw Annual to Mrs. Dorothy Jones. Mrs. Jones will be leaving Pflugerville this year after teaching here 13 years and sponsoring the yearbook for 6 years. We want to wish her all the best and many happy years ahead. We May Never Pass This Way Again 3 Life, so they, say, is but a game, and they let it slip away. Love, like the autumn sun, should be dying but it’s only just begun. Like the twilight in the road up ahead. They don’t see just where we’re going All the secrets in the universe whisper in our ear, all the years come and go. WE MAY NEVER PASS THIS WAY AGAIN 5 Dreams, so they say, are for fools, and they let them drift away. Peace, like the silent dove, should be flying but it’s only just begun. Like Columbus in the olden days, we must gather all out courage. Sail our ships out on the open sea. Cast away out fears, and the years come and go. WE MAY NEVER PASS THIS WAY AGAIN 6 I wanna laugh while the laughing is easy. I wanna cry while the crying's still good. I may never pass this way again. That’s why I want it with you. You make me feel like I’m more than a friend. Like I’m the journey and you’re the journey's end. I may never pass this way again. That’s why I want it with you. WE MAY NEVER PASS THIS WAY AGAIN 7 fr-i'...I...I i a 8 9 Consider the theme tor this year’s annual as an inspiration for adding direc- tion to your lives. The experiences from the past will serve as a catalyst for improved performance today which may, in turn, open the door to opportunities tomorrow. There will not be many second chances since “we may never pass this way again.’’ Kermit Heimann Superintendent Sharon Avant Superintendent's Secretary Yvonne Jeffrey District Bookkeeper 10 REMEMBER— Life is like a game and once the game is over, the results cannot be changed Mr Norman Plemons Principal High School Kay Weiss Attendance Clerk High School Arlene Norred Principal's Secretary 11 School Board 1980-81 Members Seated: Tommy Pfluger, Theodore Timmerman, Harley Saatoff Standing: Dennis Reese, Don Weiss, Edmund Randig, Jerry Hill 13 Bud Baker Math Spanish Diane Barton Special Education Preston Adams Coach Health Logan Bartz Voc. Ag. Mitch Wilkinson Science Personnel Idola Green Emma Remmert It was an eventful year — in the world, in the nation, and at Pflugerville High School. Classes began the day after Labor Day with Americans still being held hostage in Iran, the excitement of the upcoming Presidential eleption growing steadily, 66 more students than we had last year and the usual massive invasion of crickets. Students began the year preoccupied with mind bogglers such as Who shot J. R.? and Seniors began almost immediately to worry about meeting the deadlines on their term papers. On the political scene, here in Pflugerville, the community passed another bond to build yet another elemen- tary school, while the nation inaugurated Ronald Reagan as our new president and the hostages were released from captivity in Iran. Winter came early to Pflugerville as some of the students got out of classes on November 26 to celebrate the first snow with a gigantic snowball fight much to the chagrin of some of the other students and teachers. Winter didn't last long because the first signs of summer appeared in early February. To celebrate the warm weather students planned such activities as the Spring Dance, outdoor sports, and Spring Break. With the end of school drawing near, students interests turned to the things of spring such as the launching of the physics classes blimp, the Senior talent show, the prom at the Driskill, and the Senior trip. 20 Students set such trends at PHS as curly perms, designer jeans, button-downs, Izods, and Armadillo shirts. The Urban Cowboy theme also went over big with country western dancing, western shirts, pickup trucks, and cowboy boots making a hit among students and teachers alike. 1981 was also a year for winners at Pflugerville High School. In athletics, not only did the JV and Freshman football teams, the baseball team, and the golf team win district, but the cross country and track teams did well with several state qualifiers and the Lady Panther Drill Team brought back a Superior trophy from their first con- test. UIL play members went to Area with 2 winning All-Star Cast while the UIL team won sweepstakes for the 4th consecutive year with Brent Farney who won second-place with Ready Writing and Editorial. Students were also rolling in the bucks” as Jamie Johnson won Grand Champion Turkey at the Houston Livestock Show and Debbie Hees won Grand Champion Steer at the Austin Livestock Show. Many unusual and exciting things have happened to us here at Pflugerville High School in the past year - things we will never forget. And why should we? After all, we may never pass this way again. 21 Class of ’81 1977-78 Officers 1980-81 Officers President—Chris Beck, Vice-president—David Richter.
