The Chimes 1985 Centennial Edition 1885-1985 A Century of Excellence Pfeiffer College Misenheimer, North Carolina Volume XXX Miss Emily C. Prudden, Founder 1885 We ... wish that we could tell her of the development which has come with the passing of the years and of how finally her elementary school for mountain boys and girls has become a strong liberal arts college for men and women from many states and nations, and of how her original investment of $1500 has grown .. We would like to tell her, too, that the administration of the college is still dreaming dreams and daring to do the impossible ... Address— The Life and Times of Emily C. The orientation team, headed by Sam Misenheimer and Kim Glacklin, was a strongly bonded group that helped with suitcases, trunks, and whatever else that seemed to find its way to Pfeiffer. Orientation also includes many dances sponsored by AMS, AWS, and RLC, that seem to attract many freshmen and transfers. There are also many seminars, refreshments, and a trip sponsored solely by RLC. Many friendships are made and this is the most important time for freshmen and new upperclassmen students to feel welcomed and secure. Orientation is indeed an important part of the Pfeiffer difference. Qualifications for the Chairman of Orientation is a process of signing up and coming before the Executive council of SGA. This chairman or co-chairmen will then be in a group of selecting those they feel will express the outgoing personality of Pfeiffer. This team, along with counselors, RD’s, and Student Affairs will then welcome and entertain our new students the week before classes resume. 57 Homecoming 1984 ... Stephanie Wilson and her dad look great as they walk back to the stands Stephanie Wilson—1984 Homecoming Queen The 1984 Homecoming activities centered on the theme of Centennial Celebration. The homecoming dance, held at Fiber Industries in Salisbury, featured performances by Push and the crowning of senior Stephanie Wilson, as Homecoming Queen. Other activities included a soccer win over East Carolina University, a club carnival on the front lawns of Rowe and Merner and a Homecoming parade. The highlight of the day was the unveiling of a centennial monument constructed of bricks from the original Oberlin School and featuring a glass enclosed early school bell. Everyone had fun at homecoming and as usual those in charge did a fantastic job with the dance, entertainment, and carnival. All three seniors look great during the parade. It was a hard decisioni I I Special Friendships! 60 Halloween Pfeiffer celebrated Halloween 1984 with the AMS and AWS sponsoring dorm trick or treat hours and a dance and costume contest at the lake. So from day one the pressure was on. But being of sound mind and body, we undertook this vast project; and things were running smoothly, at first. We raised additional funds to allow for special supplements to the book. Then, with the resignation of Mr. Larry Sides, we were set back in production for about four months, but with the new ICP representative, this yearbook has finally been published. Publication would not have been possible without the determination and encouragement of Debbie Estes, our advisor, and our faithful staff. To all of these people and to those of you who have supported us throughout this ordeal, we say thank you. We ask you to take these things into consideration as you look back over this yearbook and to look now at the most important part of this centennial year; the way we have taken the past and blended it with the present to produce an image of what we think Pfeiffer College is ... The Past and the Present, but most importantly people like you and me. Thank you.
