ZM£ CHi MSS1982 “A new beginning. ” Volume XX VJJ o Pfeiffer College M isenkeimer, North Carolina 2 Student Ads .175 Advertisements. 187 From the very first time a person sets foot on Pfeiffer campus, he is aware that here he will find something he has never known before . . . and when he leaves, he is quite unable to say just what the something” was. But the feeling of a deeper, inner richness, a renewed outlook on life, a new supply of knowledge, and abundance of friendships . . . these are only a few of the things he takes with him when he leaves. Some people come to Pfeiffer and find their life’s partner, many find Christ . . . everyone finds new knowledge and new friendships. 4 On the following pages, we present to you only a few of the highlights of a year at Pfeiffer — a year of advancements for the college and for everyone privileged to attend this institution. from The Panther 1955 9 The best gift is oneself. We dedicate the 1982 CHIMES to Dr. Cameron West for his dedication and support. Mappenings “Cife is not dated merely by years. 8 vents are sometimes the best calendars. ” Benjamin Disraeli HOMECOMING 1981 . Homecoming is one of Pfeiffer’s most cele- brated traditions. It is a time of reuniting old friends and meeting new ones. It is a time of showing off the kids and remembering the good old days. Homecoming for the Alumni is full of fun, but for today’s Pfeiffer Student a lot of work goes into preparing for all of the activities, however, even the work is enjoyable and in the end everyone has a terrific time. The theme this year was Days of Wine and Roses,” which brought an air of romanticism to the campus. Entertainment at the dance was provided by Fat Ammons, and the excitement of the homecoming tradition was truly fulfilled again this year. Old friends reuniting. Alumni frequent Pfeiffer during Homecoming. 9 Clowning Around Deans Moury and Oliver address student complaints. Another part of the Homecoming tradition is the parade. This year’s pa- rade was one of the best be- cause of a lot of hard work. The senior members of the Homecoming Court this year were: Susan Birming- ham, Patti Troxler, and Cin- dy Shumate. Susan was crowned queen during half- time of the Soccer game. 10 Senior members of the Homecoming Court are from left to right: Cindy Shumate, Susan Birmingham, and Patti Troxler. Susan receives a congratulatory kiss from her fiance, Mark O’keefe. Pfeiffer’s Winter Wonderland There is a quiet serenity about Pfeiffer when it is covered in a blanket of fresh fallen snow. The beauty and cleanliness of the campus seem to sparkle. And, al- though it is a picture of peaceful- ness, it is also a place for snow- ball fights, a quiet walk with a good friend, and, yes even cross country skiing. Pfeiffer truly is a winter won- derland! 12 14 APRIL FESTIVAL 1982 This year’s April Festival was very enjoyable despite the rainy weather. The theme was Tropical Magic and the entertainment for the dance at Fiber was the Castaways. On Saturday, there was a Luau which was sponsored by the cafeteria, and the CUB sponsored a Pool Party on Sunday. These were added attractions and could not have been possible without a lot of hard work and dedication. Crowning of the queen had to be moved inside the gym due to rain. This year’s senior representa- tives were Karen Meeks, Debbie Rudisill, and Kim Macey. Devera Edwards, the reigning April Festival queen, made it back to crown Miss Karen Meeks, who was escorted by her father, the 1982 April Festival Queen. No SMOKING 18 1- urm “the concio us utterance of thought, by speech or action, to any end. ” — Si YOU CAN T TAKE IT WITH YOU The Pfeiffer Theatre’s 198T82 season literally got off with a bang” with the Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman com- edy YOU CANT TAKE IT WITH YOU. In his first year at Pfeiffer Col- lege, Director of Theatre, Fred Salancy, with a dedicated cast, was instrumental in bringing to life the hilarious and zany antics of the Vanderhof-Sycamore fam- ily, who found their daily lives centered around playwrighting, ballet dancing, snake collecting, and fireworks manu- facturing, to name a few. YOU CAN’T TAKE IT WITH YOU proved that the- atre was once again alive and well” on the Pfeiffer Campus. 20 BRIGADOON The Broadway Musical found its way back to the Pfeiffer Theatre after a five year hiatus mark- ing the Theatre Program’s new emphasis on per- formance and musical theatre. The Alan Jay Lerner and Fredrick Loewe classic, BRIGA- DOON, with the enthusiasm of over seventy Pfeiffer students, faculty, and staff played to packed houses as the mysterious Scottish village magically appeared on stage during the Spring Semester. BRIGADOON reaffirmed our belief that, anything is Possible . . . even miracles. 22 The CUB really broadened the school’s en- tertainment this year. Besides the weekly mov- ies provided the CUB sponsored shows by Hyp- notist, Ken Weber (upper right) and concerts by local talents, Mike Cross (middle right) and Vernon Hall (lower center). We sincerely ap- preciate the CUB’s efforts and hope that every- one continues to support them. 24 Association Of Men’s Students Front row: Gerald McPhail, Len Hege, Steve Ferrell, Geoff Langston, Back row: Mark O’keefe, Tony Shaver, Pooh Johnson, Dean Jerry Boone — Advisor. I would like to thank Dr. Echols, our advisor for his valuable advice; Les Howell our representative, for all of his time on the book and Dean Boone for his understanding and guidiance. The first of these is truthfulness. If I cannot look into the eyes of my friend and speak out always the truthful thought and feeling with the simplicity of a little child, there can be no real friendship between us. Friends who have to be handled” or managed”, or with whom we take refuge in fencing or posing, do not know the love that casts our fear.
