These are the outward signs of the passage of time—the length- ened shadows on the face of the dial, the darkening streaks down the sides of a building, the ticking of a clock, the running of sand in an hourglass. Time is not only the measure of life, but also its medium. Together this measure and medium give mean- ing to the individual in direct proportion to the way in which they are used—in involvement with people and work, with thoughts and feeling. We, the students of Pfeiffer College, spend our years here finding ourselves in others, becoming aware of the timelessness in ourselves, learning the truth in Edward Young's challenge, Time wasted is existence; used is life, and seeking to answer the query of an old sundial inscription, Now, or when?
