The administration of Pfeiffer College is a group of dis- tinguished men and women who plan the curriculum of the college and supervise the intellectual growth of each student. The two characteristics which all share are cooperation and dedication They are always willing to sacrifice their time to help individual students with their personal and academic problems. In conjunction with the faculty, the administration aids the student in plan- ning the liberal arts curriculum he desires to pursue and guides the student in confronting the challenge which became his when he entered college. Many times the students themselves do not realize how many aspects of their daily college lives are results of decisions by administrative officers, on whom falls the task of coordinating the workings of Pfeiffer with the demands of the outside world The administration's con- cerns are vast; its duties, numberless; and its positions, complex. 25

ADMINISTRATION Responsibility for the physical expansion, de- velopment of higher scholastic standards, and the creation of a good name for an academic institution rests heavily upon its president Since coming to Pfeiffer College in July, 1953, Dr. J. Lem Stokes, II, has evidenced a firm belief in the liberal arts background and has worked to strengthen and perpetuate the ideals for which the college stands. An ordained Methodist minister and a man of culture and educa- tion, Dr. Stokes commands respect and admiration for his dedication to his tasks as President of Pfeiffer College. 24

I Administration guides Administrative leadership is as vital to a college as it is to a corporation or country. Unless its guiding officials are an out- standing combination of knowledge, organizational ability, dedi- cation, and practical experience, the college itself has little chance of becoming outstanding. For this reason, the administra- tion's task is not easy. Joseph S. Ferebee Director of Athletics Mary E. Bethea Dean of Women Sterling D. Whitley Dean of Students Director of Guidance 26 Mrs. Faye H. Stovall Director of Placement
