SPRING Looking through a top-story window of Harris Hall, the science major finds it difficult to concentrate on his research. North campus is in full view and displays the greenery of a long- anticipated spring. Studying becomes increasingly laborious as everyone hastens outdoors to participate' in all the activities which typify spring. Baseball, tennis, and golf are as much a part of this season as sprightly bluebirds and sightly posies. The club meetings, movies, and other social events of the winter months continue to be a part of the active student’s campus life. For many students, spring fever is an inevitable part of spring. Sun bathing on the catwalks and behind men’s dorms is indicative of an idle streak which sunny weather easily brings out in people. Strolling contentedly about campus, sitting listlessly under trees, or greeting someone with an uncommonly broad smile, students experience the unique quality of this time of year. After spring vacation is over and term papers are theoretically done, a student need not be a perceptive one to realize that an- other year at Pfeiffer is almost finished. The last few weeks are full of intense activity. May Day festivities top off the year’s social events; culture rules supreme during the Fine Arts Festival. Some students are involved in last minute pre-exami- nation cramming; others reluctantly yield to what they deem a lost cause. The final days of the spring semester are also a time for ab- sorbing thought. Students reflect on the past year, usually promising themselves to study harder in the future. But these last few days weigh most heavily on the minds of seniors. As they consider their four years spent in college, they realize some- thing of the impact which this experience of learning has had upon their lives. They are not the same people who entered col- lege four years ago; their ideas and attitudes are different. Most seniors have formulated a philosophical basis for interpreting life—a foundation which future experiences will shatter and rebuild. For these who graduate, the process of learning has in- deed only begun. The year ends, and the campus is quickly evacuated. Winding around the Administration Building and past Harris Hall, the last cars leave—laden with suitcases and bound for home. 22
