• • Studying, participating in discussion, inquiring, listening to a lecture are ways of gaining wisdom at Pfeiffer. Students lean over books in the library while someone thumbs through a daily paper and another searches frantically in the periodical files. In the dormitories a student flops on his bed with his books as the accented beat of a stereo comes from the adjacent room. In the Rec, where quiet is an unknown word and solitude is a lost hope, a student with his chin in his hands forces him- self to concentrate. Occasionally among the crowd in the gym is a student who reads frantically between the highlights of a public event. On front campus students sprawl beneath oaks, alternately watching passersby and studying. Warm afternoons find couples sitting on steps of the post office or of a dormitory working math problems while students laden with books trail past. In the dormitory parlor two students study for endless hours. A student panel is born to discuss world problems and affairs while their classmates ask questions and listen to their answers. The lights burn late in a science lab as a single stu- dent plods through routine experiments of discovering. These and others are the ways students grow into maturity and grad- uate into another life. But that's another story. It is in Trustee meetings like this where the future of Pfeiffer is decided.
