L u U PUBLISHED BY THE STUDENT BODY OF PFEIFFER JUNIOR COLLEGE MISENHEIMER, NORTH CAROLINA l3 ore wore Often in life. there conies a time W hen all is gone but memories Of happy days, of work and play W ith friends and old coteries. Thus man. in his efforts to hold on To these remnants of the past. Endeavors to touch intangible thin vs o o So that forever they ma) last. For the Sophomores of '49 W e did this year our book compile. W e hope with it in years to come, You will reminisce awhile. For through it we record forever Our ideals, inspirations and goals. It is here, through Pfeiffer friendships Our tangible past of joy unfolds. To Mrs. J. Colin Davis, known as Mrs. Willie to all Pfeiffer students, we dedicate this year’s PaJaCa. During Mrs. Willie’s stay at Pfeiffer she has proven herself worthy of this honor by being friendly, cooperative and sympa- thetic. She is always willing to stop whatever she is doing in order to offer a helping hand to a student. To her we give our undying gratitude. Mere words cannot be said or written to show our appreciation and love for her, so to her, we, the Class of 1949, dedicate our yearbook. Chi M. Waggoner Van G. Hinson Dean of Instruction Helen M. Asheboro, N. ,Si iriicc (.lui I , J ! Ii.uk I I I , L’ ; llasUtball L 29 vpnecui As I walked into the news office this morning, my boss, Ray My rick (ex ’49 Pfeiffer), editor ot the Misenheimer News and Press, greeted me with the following 7 CO O words, Your next assignment will be a complete coverage of the world, looking up and reporting on the whereabouts and positions of every member of the class of ’49.’ Now this was right down my alley. What could be more interesting than looking up and reminiscing with old class- mates ? Well, I hopped a plane, and, bless pat, if I didn’t run smack into Bob 11 Tatts first thing. He’s still flying around shooting the breeze as always. He has an acrobatic show ot his own of which he is star. You know he always was athletic and liked to show off his ability. My first stop was LaGuardia Field. As 1 stepped from the plane, whom should I see but my roommate, Edith, and her famous ball player'husband. They are on their way to England where she will sing for the King and Queen. I called a taxi and here came old 'Tinker Brinkley, our sophomore class president, sailing up to a screeching halt. On the side of his cab was written in bright red letters, If you want a safe ride, call Brinkley and Collett Cab Co I grabbed my hat and held on for dear life as we plunged through the New York traffic. ' Pinker told me gobs of good fresh off the press” gossip about some of the ’ i9ers. He said that Claude Mc- Kinney, our student council president, had just sold a famous painting of Dais) Mae to the National Art Gallery. Daisy is doing part-time modeling and part-time housekeeping for Bill, her famous foreign correspondent husband. Louise Walker is with N. B. C., writing the scripts for Ma Perkins” and John’s Other Wife”. I often wondered whose brain was behind those soap operas. By this time we had zoomed to my destination, the Waldorf Astoria, and as I stepped from the cab, I heard a familiar voice shouting, Step right this way, buy your orchids here”. I always knew Bill Latimer would make good with his flower business. Going into the hotel, I noticed someone diligently washing the plate glass window. Looking closer, I saw that he was 11 'alter Horton. Now, don’t anyone get the idea that Walter is a window-washer, because he isn’t; he’s manager of the Waldorf- Astoria and is just taking his daily exercise. As I passed the bulletin board, I noticed that Opal Craven and Bill Coble are making their debuts at Carnegie Hall, tonight. After a very entertaining evening there I retired so as to resume my journey early next morning. I left New York on the beautiful passenger ship Patterson , named in honor of the most outstanding athlete in the world. Then whom should I run into, but all the Cubans, Prank, Alicia, Racjnel, Andrea, and Henry. They are on a sight- seeing tour of the world. Who is that distinguished looking O C couple over there? Oh yes, that is Dr. and Mrs. Howard II ’hittington. Howard is now head surgeon at London Memorial Hospital tor Crippled Children. In witness thereof, we do set our hand and seal, this 30th day of May, in the year of our Lord, 1949. Bob Watts, Testator Witnesses: Dick Patterson Claude McKinney On September 6, 1947, two hunderd and six young and innocent beings, who were to become the freshman class at Pfeiffer Junior College, took the road to Misenheimer, N. C. Most of us came to the campus with mixed sentiments ol reluctance to leave home but also antici- pation for new experiences ahead. Our enthusiasm for the new experiences may have waned a little after the entrance exams, but we soon recovered and began to take a lively interest in our new sur- roundings. The first official function of our class was the election of Claude McKinney as class president, S. G. Dodson as vice- president, Beth Elliott as secretary, and W. B. Kirkland, )r., as treasurer. This business taken care of, we found time midst classes and studying to become better acquainted at the Sadie Hawkins’ Day events, the Harvest Dance, and the Christ- mas Dance. Through all this we had been secretly wondering when and if the sophs would decide to initiate us. We found out. After surviving this ordeal, some of our number were honorably recognized, as evidenced by the induction of twelve scholars into Phi Theta Kappa and the tapping of ten freshmen as new members of the Order of the Sundial. The remainder of the year passed quick- ly with its dances, the memorable basket- ball game at Wingate, exams, then home again for three months. September, 194s, and one hundred and twenty-four of us returned to impress the freshmen with our dignity and wisdom as sophomores. Freshmen initiation was the most effective one yet; then we settled down to lectures and labs. We decided to eliminate the offices of secretary and treasurer from the class roster, but elected Tinker Brinkley as soph prexy, and Dick Patterson as his right-hand man. The fall passed; then came Christmas holidays, mid-year cramming, George and Martha at the Washington Ball, gab ses- sions at The Graystone Inn, the realization that time passes too quickly, and the all too final events—May Day, the Farewell Dance, Baccalaureate, and Commence- ment. So ended our alloted time here. We look forward to the future, but will never forget the friendship and experiences of two years at Pfeiffer. 38 Pfeifer JunBr p Co tdo«J'° Misenheifner.
