Jjtsitorp of Pfeiffer Junior College Pfeiffer Junior College is located at Misenheimer, North Caro- lina, on U. S. highway No. 52, nineteen miles southeast of Salisbury and fifty-six miles northeast of Charlotte. The school is under the management of the Woman's Home Missionary Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Its original establishment was under the direction of Miss Emily Pruden who selected Lenoir as its location. Mrs. Mitchell donated the money for the school which was named in memory of her step-son. Ebenezer Mitchell, who had been a soldier in the War between the States. After a fire in 1903, the school was moved to the present location of Misen- heimer. In 1914a fire destroyed the main building necessitating the use of Cline Hall, formerly a boys’ domitory, for classrooms and as a dormitory for girls. The boys found rooms in the village. The same year the high school, which had begun in 1910, was accredited by the state department. In 1938 the National Board of Trustees au- thorized the addition of two years of higher education. Gradually the lower grades were abandoned, and efforts concentrated on college work and the last two years of high school. Thus developed the present Junior College, which early in 19 34 was given full recogni- tion by the State Department of Public Instruction as an accredited standard institution. Five modern brick buildings, the gift of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Pfeiffer, were erected during the spring and summer of 1 935. In August of that year, the name of the school was changed to Pfeiffer Junior College, honoring those who made possible the greater expan- sion of the school. Other gifts from the Pfeiffers, in 1936 and 19 37. made possible the remodelling of the Administration Building and the erection of a modern science hall. In 1938 the high school was definitely discontinued and the entire work and effort of the institution devoted to the Junior College. Page Eight
