How they come crowding in upon us now as we the Class of '55 face commencement and the end of our high school days. Once we were freshmen. Remember? Remember, less Kauffman? You should, for you were our president. Ron Gibbs and Bonnie Elliott ought to remember too: they were our vice president and secretary-treasurer. We sometimes stayed after school or part of the noon hour, knitting our brows over money-making projects or activities in which we were to par- ticipate. During the next year we learned how to spell the word Sophomore : it ceased to be sophmore or southmore . We meant to be good ones. We meant to be rich too, so we sponsored concessions, working to build up a cash reserve. Our officers? They were Dave Sikarskie, president: Maxine Maclnnis, vice president: and Betty Ioe Kearns, the secretary-treasurer. Then came the lunior year, that one that stands out so vividly both socially and scholastically. Gordon Mummert was our president: Dennis Sellers, vice president: Betty Io Kearns again was secretary-treasurer. We had found she guarded our coffers well. We did something rather original too in the way of money making: served a chili supper to those with stout digestions, who can stand their food highly seasoned. They came, and stayed to dance afterward. It helped our fund. And there was the Iunior play, Seventeen Is Terrific , a success of course: and the I-Hop, of which we were proud. We had reason to be, for didn't we work evening after evening, some of us, to convert the gym into a Forty Fathom Fan- tasy? The same theme was used for the Iunior- Senior banquet served at the Perry Hotel, honoring the Senior Class. Near the end of the year, the five percent of our class ranking highest in schol- arship, leadership, character, and service C accord- ing to voteD was initiated into the National Honor Society. We were ready for Iune 13, near exhaus- tion but well satisfied with our accomplishments. And, finally, we began our Senior year at PHS, led again by Gordon Mummert as president: Doug Mummert, vice president: and-guess! Betty Io Kearns, secretary-treasurer. She was beginning to dream of money bags. The year's big undertaking has been the PETOSEGAN. Especially big because it had to be financed. Of course, there have been concessions: and a rummage sale which emptied our attics. poured nickels, dimes, and dollars into our treasury. We have been the honored guests, this year, at the Iunior-Senior banquet and I-Hop: and fifteen percent ranking at the top in the qualities required by the National Honor Society were received into membership of that organization. Skip Day came and went with a boat ride, laughter, pranks, songs, picnic lunch, et al, on Mackinac Island. And now Commencement. Yes, as those mem- ories come crowding in, we realize what High School has meant to us - knowledge, experience, fun, friendships. The memories always will be with us. We shall never forget.
