THE ms RIRATEER Time stands still for no one. That is why we must make every second count. The 87-88 school year is but a mem- ory. We, the annual staff, hope to have captured some of the highlights that made this year different from any other. As you turn the pages of this annual take time to remem- ber how it was. Then dream of how it can be. Enjoy! Gina C. Koch Editor Petersburg Public School Petersburg, Nebraska 68652 ADMINISTRATION, FACULTY STAFF Mildred P. Luettel, Secretary FACULTY Elaine E. Raising money to make it a success was always on our minds. We held the usual cake raffles but our big money maker was magazine sales. Our year wasn't all business though, the entire class still found time to participate in sports and aca- demic contests. Allan placed 1st in History at NTCC and Rose placed 1st with her County Government speech, a first for Petersburg. We will soon be the leaders of our school, it looks like we already have a good start. Troy Johnson Allan Ketteler Jeff Scholl Rose Starman 10 Opposite page. Top right. The breaking-up of the Sandhills Gateway Conference unabled us to participate in as many games and play the teams we have in the past. The highlight of the year was playing Elgin Pope John in the Orchard Invitational. Although losing, the team played hard all three sets and never gave up. Rene was chosen one of the top six players in that tournament. The only trophy received this year was from the Quadrangular held in Petersburg. The team earned second place honors by beating Clearwater and losing to Elgin for the second time this year. Gina and Rene were chosen 1st team and Rose and Kirsten made Honorable Mention for that game. Below left. Captains: Gina Koch and Rene Petsche. Below right. BASKETBALL: Scanning The Future For some of these girls this was their first year of playing real games of basketball. They ended the season with a 3-5 record. The young girls en- joyed the season and gained alot of experience by playing in these games. They are all looking into future high school years that include basketball. Left. SPORTSi The J.V. boys had only one football game this year but came away with the win. They beat Newman Grove 20-19. All the fresh- man and sophomores got to play during the game. Many of the J.V. players got to play on the Varsity team. The Basketball team didn't have the season they wanted, end- ing with a 1-7 record. They didn't let the record stifle their pride, though. They had much energy and played hard every game. Their hope is that the experience they gained this year will be an advantage next year. They won their first game in three seasons to Lindsay Holy Family and went on to have an ending season record of 6-9. The team broke two school records this year: Most field goals made in a game and Most fouls committed in a game, only one in which we're proud of. The Most rebounds in a ca- reer record was broken this year by Rend Petsche, but Rose Starman has one year left and the record is sure to be broken again next year. All of the girls really enjoyed this year and felt their experience and hard work finally paid off. It was especially ex- citing for the senior girls since this year was the first time they ever won a game. The team ended the season with a close game in the finals of Sub-Dis- tricts. Rene Petsche was named on All-State Honor- able Mention in the Omaha World Herald. o Top right. Team: (Back) Student Manager Carrie Petsche, Coach Mr. Reinsch. Both teams im- proved with each track meet. The boys tried hard all year and hopefully that hard work will pay off for them in the coming season. The girls had an outstanding year from the start and seemed only to get better as the sea- son progressed. The girls highlighted their year by bringing home the 1st place trophy at Districts.
