They faced above average competition and sometimes came out ahead. The Vikings seemed to prosper at times; however, they still ended the season below the .500 mark. Mike Meek leaps to the hoop. boys basketball 59 Wrestling “This year’s wrestlers were a good bunch of kids,” proclaimed Coach John Moyers. He is extremely proud of the senior wrestlers. Weighing in at 130 pounds, Scott Smith finished the sea- son with a 20-4 record while he achiev- ed a 74-31 career record. Johnny Crites wrestled in the 140 pound weight class. His career ended with 39 wins and 30 losses. This year he had a record of 24- 8. Both wrestled four years. With a sea- sonal record of 11-4 in the 171 weight division, Brent Burgess ended his high school wrestling career with a 13-5-1 standing. During the year, they raised funds through various projects to attend and compete in the FHA Regional Competition at Jackson’s Mill. In the Christmas season, they collected food to distribute to needy families in the area. FHA week was observed in February. Activities during the week included: Dress up Day, Red and White Day, School Custodian Apprecia- tion Day, Elderly Appreciation Day, and a pizza party for club members.
