e fleet i ond . CL aided Oraanizationd Acti vitied Sportd .... t effectiond 87 . . . As we reflect on the fall of 1987, one can’t help but remember how special all the Homecoming events were. Students from the Freshman, Sophomore, Ju- nior, and Senior classes worked many weeks in ad- vance preparing to enter their floats in the parade. During the game people anxiously awaited to hear the announcement of the king and queen. Each escort hoped that his princess would win as each princess felt honored to represent her class. The winners of floats were also announced. The Saturday dance was a nice way to end the Home- coming activities. Julie Hefner and Will Tay- lor enjoy the Homecom- m Uancf 2 reflections The Viking Band performs in one of its many parades. Mr. Jones congratulates Cassy Flet- cher while senior princess, Kelly Nel- son, looks on. Anne Glover finds time to smile while throwing frisbees in the rain. Robin Alt tells Dana Smith, “After 1 bought this dress, I couldn’t afford any shoes.” Jeromy Wheeler, Kim Mongold, and Brent Burgess watch Todd Fouch pose for the cam- era. Reflecti onA 87 . . . Whether we are relax- ing or active, PHS students are having fun by the hour, preoccupying their time with extra activities when they are not working. Some of the students like to relax by going to ballgames and cheering the team on. Some relax by walking the halls before school starts and at lunch time while talking to their friends. Students who chose activities usually join a club. Club meetings are held on school time. However, each club has activities after school such as dances, bake sales, bucket brigades and many other things that are of interest to the members. Kelly Sinnett prepares to practice business proce- “dures on the IBM Com- puter. Two more points is all it takes for Sandy Burgess 'and Kim Given to give a' cheer. The Viking Band demonstrates one of its many field positions. Chris Shadrick and Deb Iman take a causal stroll down the front hall. Honest, Mr. Corbliss sent me to use the copy machine,” Robert Thomp- son explains. l ef(ection5 87 . . . Being a part of school activities highlighted ever- yone’s year. Whether they played sports, danced, built floats, or participated in 4- H, our students were in- volved. By the end of the year, students had the op- portunity to become in- volved in a variety of activi- ties. Dancing the night away at the Homecoming Dance is this group of lively stu- dents. 6 reflections Kelly Sites accepts the accounting medal at the 4-H awards program. The senior float attracts attention from many spec- tators. The varsity girls’ basketball team warms up be- fore a game. Viking team members lis- ten diligently to Coach Fincham. 7 reflections Reflections 87 . . . The student body of PHS will look back on the extraordinary things that happened to them. Some how the school photogra- pher was always there to catch those “fun” mom- ents. Some will look back and laugh; others will say, “Oh no! Look how silly I was. ” Pictures truly tell the story of the school year. I Kelly Sites really gets a kick out of watching Barb Frye on her crutches. 8 reflections As we reflect on the past year, school spirit and community activities illus- trate participation and awareness of our students. All of these combined pro- mote well-rounded stu- dents. Participation in ex- tra-curricular activities de- pends on academic achieve- ment. Students participating must maintain a “C” aver- age, as mandated by the West Virginia Secondary Schools Athletics Commis- sion. Mr. Cooper accepts American flags from the VFW while the student council looks on. veffectioni 87 . . . Fun times at PHS is what the students look for- ward to in the mornings when they walk through the front doors. The students pair off in to twos or with a whole “gang” of friends. When the first bell rings, students separate and usu- ally do not get to see each other until lunch time. Some students are lucky— they have classes with their best friends! Lori Evans is cramming for a vocabulary test. 12 reflections Holly Haslacker, Sandy Burgess, Eri- ca Bruce, and Sherry Bensenhaver ’are rocking out during one of the chorus’s performances. r Mrs. Rowland’s senior English students ap- pear to be hard at work . . . except for Matt Evans who anxiously awaits the bell. Dave Fincham feels that winning is no indica- tion of how good a team is. As the sea- son progressed, the varsity team began to get bogged down with injuries and a tough schedule. One of the team's two victories this year came in Moorefield, where the Vikings defeated the Yel- lowjackets 27-7 in an upset win. The Junior Varsity team defeated two major rivals, Moorefield and Franklin. Dave Barr and Bobby Jack Harman both agree that with the experience of this year and a better training program for next year our team will be one to be reck- oned with.
