Senior, Lee Borror, has always had artistic abili- ties. tie started his hobby as a young child. Over the years he has re- ceived numerous awards of recog- nization. tie has won awards from his grade school years all the way through to his high school years. Last year he won the 11th grade art award. When asked why he se- lected this hobby he remarked, I considered it as fun. tie plans to continue this hobby, but he does not plan to pursue this as a ca- reer. This hobby has also had financial rewards. Lee has complet- ed artwork and murals for a profit. Besides Lee 's artwork, he has several other interest. Graduation Is . . . raduation means many things. To Jr % some it brings sadness ... to others m ioy. But it is undeniable that gradua- Jtion is a time for goodbye. It is a time change; a time for seniors to say farewell to high school and to move onward to ex- pand their horizons. The graduation ceremony of 1986 is unique in that there were two graduation ceremonies in- stead of one ceremony. It was originally planned that graduation would be held on June 6, at 7:00 P.M. However, our Vikings’ baseball team was in Charleston playing in the state tournament at that time so another ceremony was scheduled for June 7, 1:00 P.M. Both ceremonies were extremely successful, and so were the Vikings — they won! The class of 1986 consists of 117 members. Leading the class academically are Valedictorian Ron Stephens and Salutatorian Vanessa Watts. At graduation many scholarships and awards were granted to outstanding students. Susan Wolfe received $500 from West Virginia Career College; Ron Stephens and Connie Smith, Na- tional Scholar Athlete Award; Dawn Hope, the Daughters of the American Revolution Award. American Legion Scholarships were given to Da- vid Bittorf, Frank Laco, John Western, and Kim Hiser. Grant Memorial Hospital Auxiliary scholar- ships were granted to Becky Calhoun, Becky Sites, and Connie Smith. Becky Sites also re- ceived the Grant County Education Association Scholarship. Malinda Harris and Connie Smith received a Potomac State College Undergraduate Scholar- ship; Roy Hedrick, Potomac State College Alumni Scholarship. The Petersburg High School Scholar- ship was given to Chad Curtis, Donica Coblentz, and Karen Nesselrodt. John Muscat received the American Field- Service Award; Roy Hedrick, the Dave Trenton Memorial Scholarship. Bill Mitchell and Chad Cur- tis received scholarships to West Virginia Wes- leyan. Rotary Scholarships were given to Mike Al- len, Matt Borror, and Cindy Meek. Salutatorian Vanessa Watts received the Shobe Scholarship to Alderson-Broaddus. Ki- wanis Club gave scholarships to Ron Stephens and Donica Coblentz. Ron Stephens also was awarded the Robert Byrd “savings bond.” Members of this class will go in all directions, but their memories together at PHS will last a life- time. 28 A Time For Goodbye Graduation takes place on Friday, June 6. Graduation takes place on Saturday, June 7. Kim Hiser and John Western receive an American Legion Scholarship.
