Shyest: Stacey Kimble and Karen Mauzy Two of Our Ten Senior Skip Day Senior Survey A couple should try living together before they get married. The public education system is doing a good job of educating our youth. If a child is found to be abusing drugs, an excellent source of help is the police. An important motive for drug abuse is a need to belong to a clique which happens to be engaged in drug abuse. It is healthy to have males teaching elementary school classes. It is the responsibility to children to share household chores. Almost all campus protest movements are irresponsible. Birth Control information and devices should be readily available to any female over the age of fourteen who requests them. It is not manly to cry. In the final analysis, one must use drugs in order to know their effects. I would find another job if I found that the firm I worked for discriminated in hiring and promotion Government has a responsibility to provide a job for all willing and trained workers. Parents should not have arguments or disagreements in front of their kids. Anybody with long hair smokes pot. Nudity in films makes R and X rating necessary. Men should not be responsible for changing diapers, doing dishes, or cleaning house. The burdensome pressures of society decreases man’s chance to enjoy a rich and fulfilling life while living with the mainstream of society. It is unfair the wealthy school districts provides better education for their residents than do poorer areas. It is understandable that students look upon the police as the enemy. A married female can not fulfill her responsibilities as a wife and a mother if she is working. In my bureaucratic system, there is freedom for innovation and change. All men should participate in sports. Women’s lib is an anti-feminine movement. I felt angry-uncomfortable when answering this questionaire. People who are capable of working have an obligation to find a job. Cutting class is always detrimental to learning. Children should not be involved in family decision making. Women should have the right to abortion on demand. There is an age after which fathers should not kiss their sons. Teenage marriages should be discouraged at all costs. A man has a right to protect his property by shooting intruders in his home. Capable workers who could find jobs, but take welfare instead, are parasites on society. Youth today are less moral than their parents. Inter-racial marriage might be all right if only two persons were involved, but it is a tragedy for the children. Learning requires an equal commitment from the student and the teacher. The primary role of the female is to be wife and mother. The most successful drug education and prevention programs are those which involve ex-addicts. Extra marital and or premarital sex is justified for men but not for women. 16 19 23 25 25 7 6 18 35 16 17 24 15 15 30 45 2 II II II 30 4 9 45 II 13 35 9 10 35 14 16 35 26 13 19 46 6 6 30 16 12 35 13 10 47 5 5 23 4 28 33 16 10 4 12 46 14 21 21 Men who display affection for other men have homosexual tendencies. Koontz was among 28 seniors honored at the annual Petersburg High School Athletic Boosters sports banquet. The much-cited senior athlete swept most of the individual sports honors handed out at the event, in addition to several state-wide awards. The banquet also featured an appearance by West Virginia University All American” tight end Mark Raugh. During the event - one of the more lightly attended banquets in recent years according to some observers - Koontz received the school's outstanding football, basketball and baseball trophies, in addition to the John Cunningham Memorial Award. Koontz set a number of records during the recent year. Other awards handed out to Koontz who will be attending WVU next year on a football scholarship, were previously announced Thom McAn and Harry Kennedy Scholastic Athlete of the Year trophies. Koontz has also been named to play in the July 16 East West Shrine Bowl game at the Fort Hill High School stadium. Also named to the Shrine Bowl team were seniors Roger Nesselrodt. Dea Puffenbarger and Winston Redman. Viking coach Greg Dorn will direct the east squad. While Koontz received the bulk of honors announced during the banquet there were a number of other athletes cited. Vicki Gossard was cited as the school’s outstanding” senior female basketball player and track participant. Rafe Snell received the banquet’s two wrestling-oriented awards for his past successes in both regular and state tournament action. Snell received the most Outstanding” citation in addition to the Joel T. Shreve Memorial Award. Mike Reel was cited as the outstanding” senior male track participant. Reel recently took the 100 and 200 meter dashes at the Potomac Valley Conference meet. Freshman Bobby Miller received the Robert Smith Memorial Award. It was noted during the banquet Koontz received the same honor during his freshman year. Janie Barr was named as both the outstanding cheerleader and winner of the trophy for highest scholastic achievement by a senior athlete. Barr and Aaron Alexander were also named by the United States Army as winners of service’s scholastic achievement awards. On the light side of the banquet sophomore Billy Martin, and freshmen David Redman and Fred Roby, were the recipients of gag honors handed out by master of ceremonies. Greg Veach. The highest scholastic honor was awarded by booster club president John Sherman. Raugh Cites Discipline In his remarks Raugh. who will be returning to WVU next year as a senior, reviewed successful rebuilding efforts undertaken by football coach Don Nehlen and urged young athletes to discipline themselves - both on and off the playing arena. The athlete cited improved discipline and emphasis on studies as among the Nehlen’s major accomplishments. Raugh expressed pleasure Koontz elected to attend WVU and indicated his feelings are shared by others at the university. We always want a welcome surprise,” he said, it is nice to have the pleasure of a player with John's qualities come down (to WVU).” Seniors honored at the banquet were: Judy Alt, Barr, Tim Berg. Epidemic And Panic Grant County Press J Empty chairs line the hallways of Petersburg High School when school was called off because of the mysterious illness. Many concerned par- ents met with school officials to find out more about the problem and how it was going to be dealt with. ????? Cleon Bill of Health It is still too early to tell what may happen when classes resume after the long Memorial Day-Primary Election break, but it appears things are returning to normal at Petersburg High School. The school was struck by a high absenteeism rate Wednesday - 35 per- cent of the students stayed home - but the number of students staying home declined to 20 percent by week’s end Helping boost attendance was an “all clear” bulletin issued Thursday morning by a team of state and federal health safety inspectors called to the school. The team arrived at the school on Tuesday after a mysterious outbreak of health complaints swept the student body. “After a thorough review of students presenting themselves to the consulting physicians,’’read a statement by team spokesperson Dr. John Brough, “it was observed that the spectrum of complaints was not unusual. “The environmental review failed to suggest any contributing pro- blem, ”Dr. Brough continued, “therefore it was my continuing opinion that Petersburg High School should remain open. This opinion cotnes after considerable investigation and only with our belief that no reasonable risk would be faced by the school population. A total of 16 students were checked by the team’s two physicians on Wednesday. Reportedly few of the students exhibited symptoms of the outbreak - dizziness, blurred vision, upset stomachs and headaches although several other noncontagious ailments were found. By Thursday the number of students meeting with county nurse Becky Hawse had fallen to nearly half Wednesday’s total. “Things are going quite smoothly, explained high school principal Harold Garber on Thursday. The long line of absent children added The question still remains - What caused the illness at to the story of the mysterious sickness. Petersburg High School? Health nurse.
