S. has been composed of smaller worlds, representing different phases of our school life - WHEN WE WORKED, AND PLAYED, MADE FRIENDS, AND HAD THE TIME OF OUR LIVES, There are many memories of the world in which we have been a part. We have grown to know each other and to appreciate our school’s customs and traditions. Through WORKING, we have, learned about ourselves as well as the usual academic subjects. Through PLAYING, we have had fun while growing in school spirit and taking pride in being a part of P. H. S. Through MAKING FRIENDS, we have learned to trust people and to respect their opinions. But most of all it was here, in our world of P. H. S„ that we have come to realize that we belong; and it was here that we have had ... THE TIME OF OUR LIVES. 2 World High School June 12, 1969 It's Petersburg High School It's Petersburg High School The pride of every student here. Come on you old grads. Join with us young lads, It’s Petersburg High School now we cheer Rah! Rah! Now' is the time boys To make a big noise No matter what the people say, For there is none to fear. The gang’s all here. So Hail, Petersburg High School, Hail! GEORGE WILSON To you, Mr. Wilson, we respect- fully dedicate our 1969 Petro-Schola. Without doubt we feel you have given your time, talents, advice and have done more than your share to help us in many phases of school life. Words cannot express our sincere gratitude for your unlimited efforts to make our many play productions a great stage success. We did not realize our experi- ences gained from all the extra time you spent working with us. Now we realize ... and appreciate it deeply. We thank you, Mr. Wilson. May your future be as bright and brilliant as you yourself are. So thanks again and may God bless you always. GEORGE WILSON - English, Drama 5 CAROL ANN In Memoriam In memory of our beloved friends and classmates who were unfortunately taken by the will of God on July 7, 1968. Carol Ann, who would have been a senior this year and Dianna, a sopho- more, were not loved by few but by many. They were the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Gleason Kesner of Rough Run, West Vir- ginia. Our saddened hearts linger at the thought of their departure. Although we feel it is our loss, we feel it is heaven’s gain. DIANNA LEE 6 ADMINISTRATION A large part of this school’s success can be at- tributed to an often unrecog- nized but very important group of individuals who com- pose the administrative staff. The principal is present to aid the student in his academic and personal prob- lems. He is both the figure of leadership and a friend to the students. Inside the framework of our loyal and dedicated teachers, the student gains a responsibility to himself as well as fellow classmates. Our dedicated secretaries handle the immense load of paper work that helps keep the school functioning prop- erly. County Administration MR. C. D. SIONS County Superintendent Secretaries MR. As we walk for the last time through the halls of Petersburg High School, we realize that it is not an end, but only another step forward to a brighter, new tomorrow. Tears of mixed joy and sad- ness will glow upon our cheeks as at graduation we assemble together for the last time. We have spent twelve glorious years working, learning, and playing together, and the memories of these days will linger long after all else is forgotten. The Class of 1969 CLASS OFFICERS President... From the endless hours of hard prac- tice sessions until the glory of victory or the agony of defeat, the boy learns to endure for the sake of the team. It is a difficult job, but one well done by the coaches and the boys who have the interest and the desire to work for the name of the Vikings, Spirit is the most im- portant part of any team. It keeps them trying when they want to give up, gives them strength when they are tired, and hope when they are losing. Gaining spirit is a part of growth also. Through the efforts of the cheerleaders and the teams, Petersburg has more spirit than ever before and supports the teams which fight for our proud name... Athletics Vikings----Mt. Student Council is responsible for en- forcing the school rules and it desires to uphold the adminis- tration’s policy. It had a successful football season performing shows at all the home games and several away games. During the fall, the band also attended several parades including the Forest Festival at Elkins where they earned a superior - the highest rating given. After all this activity, the band could not remain inactive during die winter months and indeed they didn't. They presented a Christmas concert and sponsored their annual Christmas Formal. The Viking Band is now hard at work practicing for Spring Rating. Here they will receive a rating on marching as well as two concert selections. Plans for a spring trip are not yet completed but a trip to Gettysburg is under discussion. MASCOT - Tubber' SENIOR BAND MEMBERS: Donna Brake, Chris Western, Martha Barger, Fran Pack, Karen Fridley, David Simmons, Becki Alt, Pat Allen, and Kathleen Lewis. 123 SENIORS HEAD MAJORETTE SENIORS Advertising It has been said that behind every suc- cessful man is a wom- an. And behind every successful yearbook are the merchants, businessmen and oth- ers who help to make it possible. It is this financial and spiritual support that helps the staff and advisors produce a more precious and lasting record of the glorious days spent at Petersburg High Sc hool. There have been many hours of work spent trying to record the year's memories for you. We would like to say thanks to all who have contributed by thought, word, or deed to the completion of the 1969 edition of the Petro-Schola. The staff of 1969 would like to say a special thanks to our advisors, Mrs. Polly Ours and Mr. Greg Kennedy, for the help and guidance that they have given us. Their loyal support and untiring efforts have made this volume of the Petro-Schola possible. May the memories recorded here - in word and in picture - be for- ever enjoyed by all.
