The Petro-Schola 1968 Petersburg High School Petersburg, West Virgin VoJjjme XXIII The Petro-Schola Published by The Petro-Schola Staff Editor - Julie Nesslerodt Advisors - Mrs. Polly Ours Assistant Editor - Treva Moyers Mrs. Sharon Malone 2 Administration Advertisements Seniors Activities Underclassmen Sports Dedication With affection and respect we dedicate this, the 1968 Petro-Schola, to Mrs. Priscilla C ol I ins, our American History and World History teacher. This is our way of expressing our gratitude and our sincere appreciation for all that she has done as a teacher for the past fifteen years at Petersburg High School. m r- Looking West at the New School On November 13, 1967, Petersburg stepped out of an overcrowded, outmoded school system into a spacious new high school. The county school construction, when completed, will bring Grant County’s educational system abreast of its economic and industrial development and make it the equal of any in the state. In a fully equipped language lab- oratory, French students listen and respond to a tape recorded by native speakers. The teacher at the console can communicate with the student or record his response. 5 Pictured above are students using the library facilities. The library has wall-to-wall carpeting, a seating capacity for seventy-two students with twenty-four carrels for individual study. Typing I. II, and Persona) Typing is offered at P.H.S. The new typing room is equipped with thirty-two regular type- writers and one electric typewriter. 6 Mr. Alt supervises an experiment being done by some of his eighth grade students. The new Home Economics Department consists of two large rooms. One containing a home management area and three unit kitchens and the other is equipped for cloth- ing. More advanced areas of Science in- clude physics and chemistry. In Memoriam Mr. Lewis G. Stark “You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.” —Kahlil Gibran With the falling of the autumn leaves, Mr. Lewis G. Stark passed from this earthly world to his reward in the life beyond. For more than forty years, as a member of the Petersburg High School faculty, he gave unstintingly of his time and efforts to people in every walk of life. His integrity, mental alertness and nobility of character long served as a guiding light for his students and the citizens ot the community. His willingness to help and his encouraging words became a trademark. Invariably he found time to assume an extra task or to lighten another’s load. It was once said of him, “he saw but the good in us”. May his spirit continue to be a challenge to the future students of this school. Truly he was a man among men. Written in memory of Lewis G. Stark by Billy Ray Dunn ddMiKtafoaXi t County Administration Mr. C. D. Sions County Superintendent Mr. Thomas H.
