FOREWORD As we, the Senior Class of 1963, depart as graduates, we look back at the many struggles we have faced during our high school career in order to graduate, one of the most important steps in our lives. At the same time, our statehas reached its centennial celebrationg it, too, coming through similar struggles since 1863 when Presi- dent Abraham Lincoln signed the bill making West Virginia the thirty-fifth state in the Union. That our state contains spectacular scenery, numerous mountains, industries, and churches of all creeds is notable, but even more noteworthy is the fact that we, as West Virginians and graduates of Petersburg High School, have a bright future in store for us if we will only seek out the oppor- opportunities for employment in the iields of mining, agriculture, tourist trade, industry, and teaching right here in our state. Will we meet the challenge and s eek out these opportunities as true W est Virginians should? Will we gr ow with our Economic conditions may be better in some other states, but can we hope for them to keep on improving in West Virginia if we, the tiiture leaders of the state, seek employment and use our talents elsewhere? Let's be on the team that keeps West Virginia on the move! Wouldn't it be wonderful. if, say twenty years from now. the graduates from other states were coming in greater numbers to find those brighter horizons in our state, the finest of them all! Denver Hipp, Editor tunities which our state has to offer. Think ofthe I 3 5 state as it begins a new century? Or, on the other hand, will we leave our home grounds as many have, to seek what they call brighter horizons? V' FSI J c L ,i g at ih p. 4 , - 1963-H63 QWEST V RGINIA CENTENNI!-XL
