Memotied. Ine Made Qjj 11114, Looking back through the years to that fall of 1950, the Senior Class recalls many pleasant memories, memories which, as the poet says, “mellow with the years.” It seems like only yesterday that the 127 seventh graders began their first year on the hill under the sponsorship of Miss Huffman, Mrs. Bosley, Mr. Allen and Mr. Alfred Snyder. To guide their class through the first year they chose the following officers: Presidents: Jack Bowman, Frank Rodgers, Harold Wimer and Karen Nelson, Vice Presidents: Jerry Brill, Johnny Parks, Glenn Van Meter and Phyllis Keplinger. Secretaries: Noreen Alexander, Sharon Roby, Sally Tribett and Vernon Keplinger. Treasurers: Virginia Cook, Dee Ann Parsons, Paige Snell and Vernon Keplinger. Student Council Representatives: Marian Berg, Edgar Nelson, Eugene Turner and Charlotte Hartman. Their second year in Junior High found their number decreased to 110 and for their sponsors they had Miss Stemple, Mrs. Thompson, Mr. Allen and Mr. Lloyd Snyder. Class officers were: Presidents: Jack Bowman, Sally Tribett, Johnny Parks and Karen Nelson. Vice Presidents: Paige Snell, Robert Frye and Phyllis Sites. Secretaries: Mary Helen Smith, Noreen Alexander, Sharon Roby and Phyllis Keplinger. Treasurers: Delmar Alt, Bill Schell and Helen Swick. Student Council Representatives: Marian Berg, Frank Rodgers, Edgar Nelson and Eugene Turner. Happy in having reached the long anticipated goal of being in Senior High School, the 100 Freshmen humbly submitted to initiation by the upper classmen and began their journey through high school. The biggest excitement of the year came when the Junior High Basketball team, which included eight of our Freshmen, advanced to the finals in the P. V. C. Junior High School Tournament at Keyser before they lost to a taller Keyser team by a close score. The Freshmen officers were: Presidents: Noreen Alexander, Johnny Parks and Paige Snell; Vice Presidents: Robert Frye, Karen Nelson and Sally Tribett; Secretaries: Charlotte Hartman, Sharon Roby and Wilma Wampler; Treasurers: Juanita Borror, Joe Oates and Ruth Stark; Student Council Representatives: Jack Bowman and Edgar Nelson. Assisting these officers were the three spon- sors, Miss Groves, Miss Shackleford and Mrs. Mohl. As Sophomores their number dropped to 85, enough to carry on the tra- ditional Freshman initiation. The newly-completed Memorial Field House eased some of the rough spots of the school day, particularly eliminating band practice in the Cafeteria and allowed the basketball team to practice on the hill. Under the sponsors. Miss Shackleford, Miss Stemple and Miss Ruddle, the following students held offices: Presidents: Jack Bowman, Johnny Parks and Carole Stallings. Vice Presidents: John Yankey, Elizabeth Nicholson and Esther Frazier. Secretaries: Charlotte Hartman, Janet Sites and Harold Wimer. Student Council Representatives: Roy Rumers, Freeda Smith and Jack Bowman. As Jolly Juniors the total had dropped to 78 with Miss Groves, Miss Ruddle and Mr. Clower as sponsors. Early in the fall they presented their annual play, a three-act comedy entitled “A Case of Springtime”, directed by Miss Ruddle. For class officers they chose Jack Bowman as President, Edgar Nelson as Vice President, Sharon Roby as Secretary, and Elizabeth Nicholson as Treasurer. Early in April the class presented the Seniors with a very successful ban- quet and Prom, choosing as their theme “Hawaiian Feast”. Toward the more scholastic side of school, eight Juniors were elected to the National Honor Society and the Honor Roll contained many Junior names, in- dicating that it was not all play and no work. Finally, after many years of working together, the goal of becoming Seniors was attained. With Edgar Neslon as President, Jack Bowman as Vice President, Sharon Roby as Secretary and Johnny Yankey as Treasurer, along with Miss Babb and Mrs. Collins, the class worked together to raise money for their Senior trip. Early in April they presented Louisa May Alcott’s “Little Women” as their Senior Play. By this time their number had diminished to 70 and many had taken the “big step” into marriage. Now they had eyes for nothing except their goal—graduation. Their happy trip together suddenly came to an end with the presentation of diplomas. A bigger journey loomed before them—the journey of life. The 1956 Petro-Schola Seventeen
