There ' s a man at P.H.S. who is known by all. This isn ' t just any man This particular man has had the job of running Petersburg High for the past three years. Every student who has been to this school or is going now would be proud to say he ' s my principal . His voice is the first to be heord over the intercom in the morning and the last to be heard in the evening. He schedules each day for the student body and provides activities to make school interesting. He has a firm sense of discipline, but allows for friendship and time with the students. He is the proud principal of a school that is great academically and athletically. The one and only man who this could be is Mr. Jimmy F. Sublett. Mr. Sublett was born in Thaxton, Virginia, where he attended the schools there before moving to Bedford, Virginia. He graduated from Bedford High School and entered the University of Richmond where he enrolled in ROTC. 1954 was a big year for him. First he graduated from the University with a BA degree in chemistry and biology. Upon gradu- ation he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in ROTC. He en- tered the army in September of that year and served for two years, the majority of which was spent in Korea. He was married in December and ni has two sons, Stepen and Brent. After being discharged from the jjrmy Mr. Sublett taught for one year at E.C. Glass High School. He storted working for Goodyear Tire Rubber Company in June, 1957. In September of 1961 he again entered the teaching profession, but this time at Petersburg High School as a chemistry teacher. He then took a year ' s leave of absence to earn his master ' s degree in Education from the University of Virginia. He returned to Petersburg High where he taught physics for four years. In 1969, Mr. Sublett became assistant principal of PHS for a year followed by a year at Peabody Jr. High where he held the same position. He returned to PHS as Principal in 1971 , Outside of his school work, Mr. Sublett serves on the Deacon Board at Immanuel Baptist Church in Colonial Heights. His prized possession, other than his family, is his boat, in which he goes fishing whenever possible. We, the 1974 members of the Missile Staff, feel that this yearbook should be dedicated to the one person who has strived so hard to please the student body, Mr. Jimmy F. Sublett.
