History Records Past, Present, Future Howard Cooley cross-examines Abraham Gilliam, a hostile witness in a mock trial. Attempting to meet the demanding challenge of familiarizing students with the principles of human behavior, the history department places greater stress on understanding than on mem- orizing. In addition to History 5, which is a controversial course of current events, History History 6 is being taught. This elective traces the history of the Amer- ican Negro to the present day. Films, overhead projectors, and magazines are also used to promote individual understanding of the world of the past, present, and future. Mrs. F. Coleman Geography Robert Davis Mrs. ). Languages Open Realms Of Understanding Mr. Stronach explains a tricky passage during class. Vitally important in a world that ' s constantly becoming smaller is the knowledge of languages, the basis of all human relationships. The foreign language department, headed by Mrs. Vinson, offers French, Spanish, and Latin. Working in the new language laboratory provides students with the opportunity to hear a foreign language spoken by native people. With records, tape recorders, flash cards, and new Spanish workbooks, teachers are able to instruct students better. Art is also a way of communicating. It inspires sensitivity and imagination in the students of PHS and teaches pupils to look at things with a different perspective. Through singing and playing musical instruments to sculpturing and paint- ing, students learn to express their thoughts and feelings. 1 Mrs. Ward gives individual assistance in Spanish to Wanda McKinnon.
