To some people history means a series of wars, historical d1 eoveries, and similar things, but this is not true with the class of 1947 It gives us pleasure to tnlnk of our history as a series of hap penings including both work and play The four years in dear old Petersburg High School are happy d ys to remember,as we wander back to the outstanding activ ities of the class of 1947 We started our new career in September of 1943 by electing Piss Geyer our advisor We had twenty one members in the class Outstanding activities were music, ath letics and clubs In September 1944 we met again as sophomores This year, since Miss Geyer had transferred to the Music Department in M1ddletown,Wr Edward Myers, a substitute in the Agricultural Department was appointed advi sor with Rev Norman Wagner, substitute for Mr Henry Stoudt in the Science and History Department, as co advisor According to the cus tom of our school, we had in our sophomore year a square dance, a soup sale and due to wartime conditions, a scrap paper drive We closed and Kenn tn Hawn Ve felt quite elated to have gained the title of Juniors, and by this time we Ielt the school could not get along without us Again, with the election OI Mr George Cochran as agriculture supervisor, it was necessary to change class advisors and Nr Cochran became advisor for our Junior year Having become Juniors our actlvities increased and we sponsored two square dances and two apoearances of Jim and Jane, State College radio enterta ners Two everts, however stand out above all the others, the Junior play 'A Ready Made Familyu was preserted March lO and ll This we felt was grett success particularly from a financial point of view Our other event was the Junior prom which was, undoubtedly, the most outstanding of all with our Hgymnasiumu transformed into a circus scene, we entertained the senlors During the year John Thatcher be came a member of the Army leaving a membership of seventeen at me end of the year Finally we reached the climax At last we were seniors, but our num ber was reduced to fourteen, 'illiam Hurley having enlisted in the Ar my and Charles Taylor and Max Brooks having left school Again Mr Cochran was advisor, and Mrs Farrar was elected co advisor During this year we presented the play, 'Grandpa's Twin Sister,' which was a decided success Other events were three square dances, the sale of Jello and the presentation of the radio entertainers, Jim and Jane As our yearbook goes to press, we are all looking forward to the month of May, when we plan to take the annual trip to Washington The dates set are May 13, 14 and 15 May 25 will be our Baccalaureate Service, while Class Night will be May 26 and Commencement, May 28 Not only do we review our class history with a great deal of interest, but we all feel that in writing this history we have called to mind many memories that will linger as a source of Joy and a sense of accour plishment. 14 1 ' S , , - I 5 Q .
