A CALLING OF SERVICE INTO THE lives of each one of us comes a dark day of inevitable Ioss, and it is only natural for a normal person to sorrow at the Ioss of a loved one. It is at such a time that the funeral director is called in, and to serve his clients to the fullest extent he must be a man of many abilities, for his responsibilities are many. The funeral director is made the confidant of many, and many privacies of the domestic life of the home to which he is called are disclosed to him, and he must always count it as his first duty never to betray the trust placed in him. i In spite of his continued contact with death, he is careful not to perform any act that will affect the dignity of death and will always reverence a dead body no matter what its condition might be. By his skill he can help to take away the grimness of death and make it seem as it should be, a quiet sleep from which there is no awakening. By his experience and thoughtfulness he is able to relieve the clients of worry and anxiety, leaving a grateful- ness to himself that will be remembered years afterwards. It is a work that carries with it an untold amount of satis- faction for it Iightens the burdens of humanity, and gives an opportunity of showing kindness, consideration and understanding at a time when it is most appreciated.
