Ffbef Tarmr' rmwfffwovfer join .Sm XA he class of 1946 dedicates this record of our four years in P.V.H.S. to our advisors.Dh- like most classes, we have had three advisors instead of ene. We dedicate our book to Nomdm K. HOOVER, who started our career with us when we were Freshmen, and helped us to find the best pathg to JOHN SMITH, who took over, in our Sophmore year, when he became Mr. Hoover's successor in the Agri- cultural Department. Hr. Smith was a friend and pal to all of us as well as a good advisor. He left us in the spring of l944to go to the Navy where he is still serving. Last, but definitely not least, we dedicate it to MRS. ETHEL FARRAR who has guided us through the two biggest years of our school life. Her in- terest in us has enriched our activities. Lastyum in helping us with the Junior Prom, she was one of us, cutting crepe paper, tacking nets, and fret- ting over our mistakes. She coached our Junior and Senior plays, which we modestly considered great successes. Too numerous to mention are the little things she has done for us individually. Whether it be selling tickets at a class activity, or making our class night programs, we can count on Mrs. Farrar. Because of our advisors' sincere interest in us individually and as a class,'we, the Class of 1946, take this opportunity to show our apprecia- tion and thanks , :ii::i1,:::eife:-T:.91 Z ya.a:.Ae:e:::::e::::::: E'- - 4 -yNmWil11m,,.lf D? , eg' ,A X . ? For the f, -XX Freshman year we chose the following officers: President, EdwinTmTi Walker, Vice-President, Mary Jane Temple, Secretary, Jane McManus, and Treasurer, Edward Houck. In spite of the war we had many activities such as a hike, a wei- ner roast in October, a vegetable soup sale, another weiner roast in . April, and a square dance. A year later, September 1945, only twenty members came to make up theSophomoreClass. This year we elected as our officers: President, Charles Croyle, Vice-Pres- ident, Betty Barclay, Sec- retary, Jane McManus, and Treasurer, Norma Wagner. This year we did not have so many activities because of rationing , Still we managed to have a weiner roast, a trip to the movies, and a square dance. We also sold jello to help enlarge the :lass treasury. Another year passed and, in September 1944, eighteen members showed up to form the Junior Class, For a short time only, there were eighteen, in November, Joan Attics left to return to Hershey. From the remaining members we chose the following officers: President, Mary Jane Temple, Vice-Presi- dent, Norma Wagner, Sec- retary, Lillian Croyle , and Treasurer Edward Houck. Included in our ac- tivitiesfor this year were two square dances, the selling of Jell-O, the pleasure of entertaining the Seniors at the Junior Prom, and a play, 'HERE COMES CHARLIE' , which, at least in our opinion, was a splendid success. We also col- lected scrap paper to help the war effort. We are sorry to say that our class was reduced to fourteen, in our Senior year. From these we chose our officers, President, Ann Cresswell, Vice-President, Hazel Rudy, Secretary, Lillian Croyle, and Treasurer, Edward Houck. During this year we were very busy with the year book, the sell- ing of Jell-O, another play, 'AARON SLICK FROM PUNKIN CRICK'. 'f CCUaasQlWPisioify We have planned a trip to Washington, D.C.. According to the schedule we shall leave Petersburg Hay 14 and return May 16. Then on May 26, 1946, the traditional Commencement Activities will close our four exciting years at P.V.H.S.. We shall say farewell, then, to the teachers and classmates who helped to make the Glass of '4Q,which we love and shall cherish for years to come. 1: ::'o -NI.:1:Taira::e:1i:a::::.:i1:: ,M ?:::::::,:,iegjgififzezfe: tz2,,.,,,.S2fj3gQ,n,JfQ,plzQi,z5' A RURAL COMEDY IN THREE ACTS CASTE OF CHARACTERS AARON SLICK, not as green as he looks Clair Sprankle MR. Our Junior year dawned bright and clear one warm September day, And then throughout the year we found that most of us were gay. It is at such a time that the funeral director is called in, and to serve his clients to the fullest extent he must be a man of many abilities, for his responsibilities are many. The funeral director is made the confidant of many, and many privacies of the domestic life of the home to which he is called are disclosed to him, and he must always count it as his first duty never to betray the trust placed in him. i In spite of his continued contact with death, he is careful not to perform any act that will affect the dignity of death and will always reverence a dead body no matter what its condition might be. By his skill he can help to take away the grimness of death and make it seem as it should be, a quiet sleep from which there is no awakening. By his experience and thoughtfulness he is able to relieve the clients of worry and anxiety, leaving a grateful- ness to himself that will be remembered years afterwards. It is a work that carries with it an untold amount of satis- faction for it Iightens the burdens of humanity, and gives an opportunity of showing kindness, consideration and understanding at a time when it is most appreciated. IVIY DUTY IS TO THOSE WHO ARE BEREAVED, and I find it difficult to imagine a calling offering more opportunity of service to the community in which I live. TEMPLE'S FUNERAL HOME Petersburg, Pa.
